Okay, so I need an ECU...

Okay, guys.. I bought an R1 with a few mods about 2 months ago.. it ran like a champ to begin with, but now seems to detonate under much boost.. (so I drive like granny to work..) Guess this means that I need some better fuel management. Which means I need some advice on choosing an ECU or fuel controller.

Can you guys help?

Here are my objectives:

100% - make & keep the car reliable
80% - Maximize my power for my mods.
80% - Easy to install
50% - Easy to revert to stock.
10% - Be adjustable for the future.

And my mods:
- Pettit intake
- SR Stock mount Intercooler
- Pettit downpipe
- N1 Exhaust

Options that I am aware of, and questions/issues associated:

PowerFC:
- with commander: $1200
- Seems to be very popular, and 16 bit computer sounds good
- Easy install, uninstall.
- I have an R1.. what's the scoop with the AC? Is there a problem? Can I retain my stock computer to run the AC?
- Availability issues with the commander module.
- Will fix my hesitation.

Pettit ECU
- $700
- Keeps factory computer (so no AC issues, right?)
- Pass emissions test okay?

Haltech:
- $1200+
- Need to premix or whatever.. not for me.
- too much effort to install/maintain.

Apex SuperAFC
- $300
- Piggyback technology. (Is there a problem with this?)

Anything else that you gus think I should consider? Should I bother with a boost controller? I'm not after more go-fast at this point, just to tune the car properly. My thoughts are that if there's not really an issue with the PowerFC and my air conditioning, it sounds like almost a bulletproof way to go. Or am I making this too complicated? Will the AFC do the job? I don't like the thought of sending out my ecu to be permenantly hacked for the pettit or whomever, but if that turns out to be my best option, I'll probably do it.

Thanks for your thoughts..

Dave
