oil and additives

I would like to ask being a new fc gxl 87 owner, its the 13b non turbo, and has 123,000 miles. I wanted to know what oil additives I can put into the oil like lucas, or something, like is it safe to use in a rotary. Also I know using crc throttle body cleaner is a no no when running the car. Do I have to take the throttle body off to clean it out or is there a rotary safe cleaner I can use. Also what's a good way to go about doing a engine clean on this engine. Please and thanks.

Oil additives are mostly bullshit. Microlon is one of the few additives that seems to work, but I'm not sure if it is worth the money.

Why do you need to clean the throttle body?

I just want to clean it up from any build up and other stuff and overall just cleaning the engine up. I'm not turboing it or anything just going to be a clean up car.

Lucas would help if you have a fairly high mileage engine, not rebuilt yet, and you drive it hard. But it's not necessary though, unless you have the extra money every time you do an oil change.

Mine is at approx. 183,000 miles (293,000km), and I've been using heavier viscosity oil like 20w50 instead of 5w30 or 10w30.

^ This. Attempts to clean the engine usually end up clogging it up. I wouldn't bother cleaning the internals until it is time for a complete engine rebuild.

Just use Top Tier gas, use distilled water in the coolant mix, and be sure to rev the engine past 3800rpm on a regular basis to keep the secondary fuel injectors in working order.

Sometimes it's not a bad idea to send your fuel injectors out to get cleaned and flow tested. Below are the most popular shops for this. Be sure to order a new intake manifold gasket if you remove the primary fuel injectors, and you may want to consider replacing the fuel filter and pulsation damper at the same time.

Thanks all this was very helpful and enlightening. I grew up around 302s and big block chevy/fords, my first import was a protege speed and my cousin has a 88 t2 rx7 that's where I got my passion for these and among other sources. But again thanks for the knowledge!
