new to turbo's question about tuning

hey guys,

Just got a turbo rx7, its a big diff than my old n/a's... i have a s5 13b, t04 hybrid with the stock s5 hotside. run with a hks f-con computer with the optional unit that adjusts the fuel input every 1k rpms.... i have a apexi R and a A/f ratio guage. my question is how exactly do you tune a car. i know it may seem silly but is there a general guidline on how to do it or a archive somewhere i can look at? thanks in advance

Stan

Stan,

I know that car like the back of my hand.

For what its worth - you have more than you have posted up that figure into the equation.

You have an upgraded fuel pump, larger secondary 800cc secondary injectors, and it is a wideband A/F gauge.

Call me or PM me your email address and I can email you the instructions for the AVC-R and F-Con.

HKS recommends tuning by EGT there are specific instructions in the F-Con manual how to tune the F-con.

The stock turbo manifold is tapped to accept an EGT probe for monitoring pre-turbo - all you have to do is remove the plug. You can also can tap the downpipe after the turbo if you think that might be easier.

By the way - everyone else on here is about to tell you to ditch the F-con and go standalone.

The best advice i can give you is to turn that Boost controller off until you learn more, I have been in scotts car and it is a rocket, but he nows when the weather isn't right for a bar of boost. Just run on the stock spring (Boost controller off) for a while.

Also i was trying to get scott to get rid of that dam FCON, it is old school tech.

Go you Banzi Racing and look into getting a power FC adapter for your car. Plug and Play

Not bad advice...

If you can manage the power FC initial expense you will have your stock ECU, F-Con, GCC, and S5 Turbo Air Flow Meter to sell to offset the cost.

If you go the Power FC route you can always bring it back to Houston - and maybe Chuck will help you with a good map for the Power FC.

It is getting colder out... be sure to turn the boost controller down or off until you are more familiar.
