haltech, FJO, and laptop problems/confusion

ok, here is my problem. the haltech runs a DOS based program and uses the serial port. the FJO uses windows and uses the serial port. the laptop i have for the car is a POS old IBM w/ a serial port as COM1.
haltech will not connect if i do not restart the computer in DOS mode. where FJO uses windows.
HOW THE HELL DO I GET THEM TO BOTH WORK AT THE SAME TIME FOR LOGGING? can i?

i am not very good w/ computers so please explain in lamens terms.

another laptop i have does not have a serial port....only a USB port. from my understanding i can not use a USB to SERIAL converter with the haltech due to it being windows based.

one more problem....i hope this is my last problem.
how can i get the screen for my computer to take up the entire screen when viewing the haltech program? one computer (the newer one w/ USB ports that i cant use for haltech) it shows the entire screen. the one that i CAN and DO use shows it in a small box in the middle of the screen with a black outline. can i change this somehow? it is very annoying trying to read such small info.

I don't know about that.... you might get haltech to work in windows if you change the properties of the exe file to ignore windows... that might work

but if you only have one serial port, and both of them need it, you can only talk to one of them at a time, so where's the issue?

speed. yeah i am on it. i actualy posted the same question there.
fatboy and speed. i am going to use the spare a/d input for the 0-5v signal per advice learned on the other forum and the haltech suport.
fatboy- i dont think i can do what you said about changing the exe files. do you know something i dont? please elaborate..

my main problem now is the size of the viewing window for the haltech. i have gotten used to it at this point, but it would be nice to see the full screen.

right click on the file (the file, not a shortcut), click properties, there will be a checkbox on one of the dialog screens for displaying "full screen"

Also, FJO makes a connectivity kit to hook the controller output directly to the haltech ecu. You should be able to datalog the readout of that with the Haltech software, correct?

I don't think that you need a special connection kit, you do have to run a seperate wire from the FJO unit to the Haltech.. I have done this, however the problem that I am having is that the Haltech and the FJO are not reading the same A/F Ratio number. I know on other ECU's as the AEM for instance there is a correction factor for voltage that you need to put in, but I dont think that you can do this on the Haltech.. any ideas on this.. It would make tuning so much easier if I could datalog the correct A/F values.

i got the info on how to make the screen full size. thought i would share and actualy give the answers i learned unlike 99% of the users of this board.

i had to put the thinkpad configuration in the systray. after doing this, i was able to go to dispaly, and the option popped right up!!
thanks Matt (HITman)

opec--what wire from fjo did you use to hook up to the spare a/d?
