Haltech = Premix Gas
Is it true that when an 89+ RX7 is converted to Haltech on must use Premix gas. If so how have yall made it work. Any ideas. Thanks.

Yes, it's true.
You could, from what I hear from others, install the OMP from the '86-'88 on all of the series including the series 6, 3rd gen.
gmonsen has the TII OMP in his list of mods for his 3rd gen. I think that means that he has installed the early model TII OMP so that he won't have to do the premix thing.
gmonsen, can you help this person out?
Mike

Forgive me but what is OMP and what does it do. I thoght the reason of Going Haltech was so you had control over everything. Now it seems that Going Haltech only present more demons

Oil Metering Pump = OMP, it supplies oil to the oil injectors to lube the apex seals. The 88 and older OMP's are mechanically operated so they don't need any electronics to run them vs. the 89 and newer ones that have the computer control their function.

Persona non grata
Gordon - I still think you should be using pre-mix with your car. Why would you possibly choose to burn dirty 4 cycle engine oil when you can instead burn clean 2 cycle engine oil designed to burn cleanly? After looking inside a few motors I've seen a pattern where the points that show the most wear are the points farthest away from the oil injectors. This leads me to believe that the stock OMP, even on stock motors, is insufficient. I run premix even on my bone stock '90 Convertible.
I reccomend to everyone to use premix. And on a modded engine where the lubrication requirements are even greater, I think it's suicide not to run premix.

You don't need to run premix... I'm not. I have a mechanical Oil Metering Pump (Thats what OMP stands for... it insjects oil into the combustion chamber for lubrication) and I have an external resevoir filled up with Yamalube. Running premix (if you do it wrong) can ruin your engine if you don't get the ratios right... lots of people just dump a pack of 2 cycle in at fill up... I don't consider that doing it right. Your gas should be mixed before putting it in there to ensure consistency... Oil is an impurity in the gas... too much and its detonation time.

Well it looks like I will be running Motul 600 with premium. I like the idea of knowing without a doubt the rotors are getting oil. Also I can adjust for how much oil I want to get the rotors. I have been told that you should use more for track use than everyday driving. I am just wondering if the pump and injectors are supposed to be pumping oil in with the gas. would the fuel filter clog faster?
