GREDDY Emanage Ultimate *WARNING*

Hey guys... as youve helped me out a lot since i was "new to rotarys" I thought i might share some of my experience!

Well ... as i had one lying around i decided to go with the Ultimate instead of an PFC ! ... and Re Amemiya have em in one of their cars... so i thought it couldnt be that bad

wiring everything up was straight forward and quite easy! got everything installed incl. a 3 bar Mapsensor from Greddy! ... well decided to turn the key and monitor everything and take it for a ride!

well car was backfiring quite a lot ... and running rich :/ after a couple of runs i pulled over ... and got out of the car / popped the hood.... suddenly i saw cool aid leaking on the ground! ... and the water was boiling! fans not working!!!!!!!!!!!!... immedeatly shut the engine down! and towed the car back home!... next day i started the engine and monitored the water temp! the ultimate was showing 60 C° while my water temp gauge showed 110 ! ... pressed the ac button to get the fans working... and let the engine cool down a bit...

so ------> FANS NOT WORKING!

CAUSE : Greddy made a mistake on the instructions the JUMPER JP 13 and JP 14 HAS TO BE SET TO "OPEN" ... not 1-2 !!! Otherwise the watertemp and intaketemp readings will be fooled causing belayed ignition and fans not working! ...

just thought i would share !!!

I had to build a buffer amplifier in the end - as the emanage loaded the inputs to the ECU on my FC too much, and caused it to run rich all the time thinking it was cold.

There's a couple of 'gotchas' with the ultimate - but with the later firmware revisions, it really is quite a robust product. If you assign your leading and trailing ignition to different maps, you can control split timing on the rotary as well

I also run one map for the primaries and one for the secondaries, and the scale for the secondary injectors starts at 0 psi, as they are never on without boost.

yeah the Emanage is great! Ive been running it for about a month now and love it more and more every day! I wouldnt trade it for anything! ... There is just that bug that you should be aware of and sort out... otherwise its one of the best units ive ever tried! ...

btw. what do you mean with split timing? that sounds interesting ...

The Emanage is such a clunky pain in the ***. There aren't enough inputs and correction maps to easily get a consistent tune with it as weather changes. And timing control is such a pain to do... it's been a big headache for me on Rx-8 and 3000GT applications.

You have to use both ignition maps to do this - but basically you use one for leading and one for trailing. You then have the ability to alter the stock timing independantly and thus control the split timing.

Incidentally - it appears that some revisions of firmware show the timing incorrectly - I run 2.11 on the emanage itself which has the one annoying bug of reversing the throttle setting - but a check in the box switches that over.

I've attached a screenshot of the ignition tab - shows how you can set the 2 independant maps for ignition.

It has it's limitations, but given that your stock ECU should be doing most of that work, the emanage is only there to allow you to tune injector and ignition outside of what the stock unit can do.

I kept the AFM on my car, as although you can eliminate it with the emanage, it does control fuel at low rpm and low load way better than the emange map can, but what the emanage does allow, is mapping based on MAP sensor for when the AFM voltage is basically at 0V (about 11-12 psi - but depends a little from car to car).

At the end of the day, the stock ECU is going to do a pretty good job of controlling the engine within the area it was originally intended for, and the emanage can pick up where that leaves off.

I do mess a little with fuelling in the stock map, because I've changed fuel pumps and also have 800cc injectors for secondaries, so the emanage is tweaked for the AFR's - but I don't touch the fuelling where the stock lamda sensor is working (between about 1500-3000 rpm on light load), other than to cut a set percentage of fuel to keep the fueling the same as an original car (fuel pump swap and rewire caused slightly higher fuel pressure, which I could correct on the FPR, but decided to actually make a correction on the emanage to give me slightly more fuel to play with at the top end of the map).

BTW - I don't use the AFM correction map at all - this alters fuel and timing - and will give you headaches if you mess with it. With the ultimate, you can control fuel and ignition seperately and you can combine maps to allow adjustments based on more than one input parameter. Just keep in mind that whatever you change is on top of the stock ECU's outputs.

I just purchased one for my FC S5 6 port turbo. How hard is it to tune? Someone online said the leading and trailing are reverse...is this true? Here is the link to what I referring to.

See my response in the other thread.

You made a mistake. Sell your eManage ultimate.

Hey man do you know how to set the jumpers for a S5 FC? I'd be very appreciative if you can help me.
Thanks!
