i found a pdf that i downloaded and followed to upgrade the blue to the gold version.

It worked as said

I thought that the latest blue firmware and support tool have the gold features added so you don't have to do the hardware mods(using the gold firmware/software).What do the hardware mods enable/do?

 

i tried digging that up on about 3 other forums. i think in the earlier versions of gold you had to do the hardware mods.. I found a few people say that the features the gold firmware did not work until they did the hardware mods.

 

you do not need to do this hardware mod. the new software works fine
