Ecu upgrade & mods = fuel consumption???
Hey,
I was wondering what effect an ecu upgrade and or mods have on the fuel consumption.
After modding the car and it needs an ecu to push more fuel that would mean the gas milage goes down.
Does it go like the more mods you have the worse the gasmilage is?
Maybe you guys can give me some feedback here from your experience.
This guy I met with a highly modified RX7 said he only gets 7 miles per gallon!
Whats up with that?!
Thanks

Normally, your highway gas mileage will not go down. I think mine actually went up as I modified the car. I get about 23mph on the highway but I think I could get even better (if my highways were up and down the mountains!)
However, under hard driving conditions, you will consume a little more fuel. I think I got 5-6 mph the last time I did a high speed driver's school. I'd bet that even a stock car could get close to this when driving on the track. Ask SleepR1 what he gets, I know he used the stock ECU for a long time and should know what's the worst-case mileage with a stock computer.

It depends on what mods you have, how you tune the engine, and how you drive the car. An EMS with a high-resolution injector pulsewidth map will aid in getting better gas mileage.

Only if you're on the throttle that much!
In general, the VE is increased, so the car actually uses less fuel unless you're pounding the car.  If your EMS is tuned very well, you'll get near stock (or better) fuel mileage driving around town off boost.
