Question ECU for Auto Tranny?

I'm looking to get some major work done on my '93 FD fairly soon, and know I'm going to need a new ECU when all is said and done. The only problem is, I've got an automatic, and would really like to keep the Hold button functional. I've looked at iluvmyrx7.com, but I was wondering if there are other options out there. Any links, info, or personal experience you folks could pass on would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

John M.
'93 Base VR
Tanabe RM Catback
K&N drop in filter element
APEXi Boost Gauge

Future Plans:
Single Turbo
Williams Tuning IC
Radiator Upgrade
Cold Air Intake
etc, etc...

Sorely in need of (as soon as funding allows):
Engine Rebuild (straight 4's on compression check, but amazingly running great with no coolant loss!) Heh, might as well get that street port while I'm at it.

Go to RP in Dallas and have them install a Haltech in parallel with you stock ECU. This will be a vary nice setup.

LOL... Think I'd better get some money so I can leave my baby with him first... and in that case, I better wait till he's done with it first too.

he's got some interesting ideas for replacing the tranny though too... won't describe it on here, because I think it's part of his plans for the racer, but if you need a tranny rebuild/replacement, you might want to talk to him.

RP in Dallas put a power fc in my auto. It is the first one they've done. Chris says it will work. I pick it up monday!

Hehe, I know what you are talking about. You know that his solution could possibly make a Tremec T-56 6 speed swap that much simpler? I'm not going to be the development mule though, hehe.

weaklink! so ya going to do the manual conversion or what? Are going to see if RP can do teh stock ecu/stand alone parallel thing?

Daniel,

Well for now I am going to keep the stock auto tranny until it grenades. At that time I may switch to a 5-speed. RP WON'T do it. KDR will. My other option is to have RP install a new auto tranny, there is a ready supply from the MPV. If I choose that route I will have them put in my level 10 torque converter.

I also went for the power fc. I have lost the hold fx. Chris says that the shift points etc. are not too bad, and he checked it on a dyno with a wideband and it will work ok. I was ready for the haltec to be wired in parallel, but I got the feeling that it would be a pain in the *** and overkill for my needs. Plus, with the money I saved from skipping a week's worth of dyno time for the haltec, I got a new Greddy IC and RP intake!

There was a third option discussed which was altering the fuel maps on the stock auto ecu by burning new roms or rechipping or whatever. This died out and I'm not sure why.

I think greddy (trust) is coming out with some sort of e-manage thingy. Someone on the forum was talking about it.

Finally, I may put my auto back to stock and look for a 5-speed. I have a buyer for it I think. I will wait to drive mine, however and see what I think. I get it tomorrow! RP was really cool and didn't charge me for a lot of the dyno time, etc. chalking it up to R&D. I can't recommend these guys enough. My dyno numbers were a little low, I thought, compared to what I have seen from the 5-speed guys.

Yeah, g-force is teh only co I can find that will remap the stock ecu for auto cars. I'm waiting to see how this E-manage thing turns out. Supposedly Greddy is just waiting on teh english version of the software - they say more then likely it will not be until the beginning of the new year.

What were your numbers? Do you think it may be just an well used tranny thing? I'm also wondering if the torque converter was fully locked up when your car was on the dyno? Not sure if the loss of the auto ecu would effect this?

around 250 at the wheel corrected. on the uncorrected run there is a spike to 268, but this was due to shift shock from the auto. anyway, the car feels a lot faster. twice yesterday the back end got loose. i have to get used to it all over again. the only bad part was that once I shifted into R and nothing happened, the motor revved but the car didn't move. Working now, but probably the tranny will go a lot sooner than I had planned. the engine bay looks a lot better too, but I have to get used to the air pump and the blowoff.
