PFC is the cheapest, Haltech cost more new, but you might be able to find one for a good price,

you have to take into account the pfc is nearly a plugandplay item

the haltech requires a bit more work

I think the cheapest is the PFC, but if you also want a hand controller, then the Microtech LT8S is usually slightly less expensive. If you really want to save some money, look for an outdated EMS like a Microtech MT8 or LT8, Haltech E6K, or Wolf3D V3.

No EMS will run your engine safely. That is up to you. I suggest paying a professional tuner to perform the work.

Talking Try Wolf 3D

Have done much reading on the wolf3d v4 and it seems to be very good bang for buck. There is a group buy hcurrently happening for these. If there are more than 11 of us it will cut the price down to $950.00

This is what I'm using for my project. You have to put it together yourself, but it should be as full featured as a haltech (probably more so.) I'll let you know how it goes...

cheapest stand alone

In my humble opinion I believe the cheapest stand alone ECU to control a rotary is the MegaSquirt. Now you gotta build it and you gotta run a dizzy,, but it's way cheap for a laptop tuneable ECU. I have built one, but I still didn't get around to installing it on my streetport. There's another forum member who is planning on running it on his 20B. I suggest you check it out if you don't have the budget for the other systems.

I've run Megasquirt on a couple 13B's. The first one was an S4 that was my daily driver for about 18 months, with the stock ecu controlling spark. I now run it on the 13B in my SA. If you can live with zero or fixed split, and are handy with this sort of thing, MS can be configured to control fuel and spark. There is no 'plug-n-play' kits available, though, so if you're not into the 'diy' thing, it's not for you.

Given it's an open source project, the feature set is constantly expanding. The latest version to be released has two 12x12 fuel tables, and one 12x12 ignition table, closed loop idle control, soft and hard rev limiters, knock retard, boost control, and much more. The biggest problem for the newcomer is figuring out all the options, and then keeping up with the constant development. The majority of the support and development work is documented in the forums at www.msefi.com.

if ur fine with doing the work urself get a megasquirt, it may seem daunting at first but after giving the faq a seccond read I found it fairly straightforward, except for spark control. I believe if ur willing to buy urself a nice aftermarket ignition control unit megasquirt will be able to do spark as well and allow u to remove the ecu entirely. megasquirt complete kit (140$) + AEM CDI Ignition ($325) = $465, and if ya want to dress it up or get the hand control unit add $200. I'm sure there are cheaper ignition control units, but I am unable to find them so far.
