cant connect to haltech with new laptop

my laptop didnt come with a serial port, so i use a serial to usb adapter... it gets about halfway through the connection process then the haltech drops the computer off... has anyone been able to connect to a e6k with an adapter?

haltech e6k software is made for dos, and won't run in XP. you need to make a MS-DOS boot disk, and use that when you turn on your computer. Also, you must have a FAT or FAT32 partition as DOS doesn't recognize NTFS.

To make the boot disk, insert floppy, right click in explorer and click format. then check the box that says make boot disk.

windows xp works fine with the haltech, the problem is the lack of a serial port and finding an adapter that works fast enough to use.

the usb to serial adapters for some reason are slow,

everything since win2k (using ntfs) has used dos emulators and ive never had a problem connecting via serial port with old laptops that run win2k +
