Autronic SM4 password

So the story in short is, that I bought Autronic SM4 ecu from ebay, from the guy that was known in here as Tyran TT. I got the ecu from him, had finally time to install and test it and it seems to work but it is password protected. So it's useless to me now. The guy that sold it to me didn't mention anything about the password and hasn't yet come up with any answer how to get rid of it. The thing is that my local Autronic dealer or Ray Hall won't help me since I bought the ecu from another country. So basically I can dump the ecu in the garbage-can if no one can get the ecu unlocked for me. So there was my little story and the question is, does someone now how to unlock it or can someone point out who could help me?

If you are trying to edit the existing file which is password protected, understand Aubert is the only one capable of that - I'd expect he'd want a good reason to do so.

Normal method here is for the area dealer to wipe the slate clean and start again. Wouldn't have thought buying second hand would present problems (numbers of them change hands here)...unless the serial no came up as stolen...but I may be entirely wrong with your complicating factor of offshore import!

No, I'm not trying to edit the existing map. I don't have any use with it so it can be deleted completely. I was told by Ray Hall that if you buy second hand ecu from another country you don't get any kind of support (neither access to the Autronic forum) at all, not from my local dealer or from Autronic.

It's up to the manufacturer to support second-hand sales of their products or not.
This backs up their regular retail channels and minimizes the secondary sales market.
If it's Autronic's policy is not to support them, then it's very little you can do.
I've heard that they can reset it if you send it back to Australia, but I guess this policy has changed.
It sucks that the seller stuck you with something you can't really do anything about.
This is why I always ask every Autronic for-sale ad if the ECU is password protected or not...

Sorry to hear your bad experience...

Have you tried having the seller contact them? I can understand if they are suspicious of theft and unwilling to work with you without an introduction from the seller or some kind of paper trail. Otherwise they're being total *********** -which wouldn't surprise me given their history.

We had a discussion with Chris, the seller, and he promised to take care of it. It's been now about week since he last contacted me, but it is christmas so it could be just that he has not had time to answer. I hope that he gets it sorted.

Just noticed the original ad that was placed for this....would appear to be a discrepancy between brand new in the box and locked and loaded .....unless things operate vastly differently over there.

An ebay dispute would be too late at this stage I'd imagine? Given the vendor's apparent previous form and marked reluctance of dealers to give passwords, I wish you the best of luck!

I know this is an old thread but ill ask anyway. What did you do to solve the problem? Got the exact same problem as you. The dealer policy is that you have to buy from the dealer in your country to get any kind of support.
