Aftermarket ECU

This is probably a wide open question but i'm a noob when it comes to ecu's. I have an 88 s4 N/A and am looking to gain some power without adding a turbo. Just wondering if an aftermarket ecu could give me a decent power gain and which ecu's are recommended.
Thanks

apparently Rtek7 an excellent system and is good for about 10hp on the N/A with tunning. Increases response, mpg a little as well.

I'd go megasquirt and have someone dyno tune it.

Then you'll definately want a header, and a good exhaust system, anything off the shelf except maybe the crappy pacesetter catback will suit your purpose, just get something that suits your taste in sound, alot of people seem to like the corksport with a borla xr-1 muffler in place of the presilencer.

Then get a cone or mushroom air filter with a cold air box setup or something similar.

Then S5 intake manifolds, then an intake and exhaust porting

I myself would do all of the above and add a little spray as well which wont hurt
If the car is properly tuned. I would go with a wet shot.

I've read alot of these types of threads, & a common recommendation is an Apexi S-AFC. It's something I was considering, but the more I read this board, the bigger my eyes get. So, while I'm in the middle of my N/A build up, I'm starting to think its just an interim buildup, prior to turbo installation.

I'd go w/ a standalone, that your tuner is familiar with...

I think if you intend on tuning the car yourself, or if you know the tuner you plan to use will actually touch a Megasquirt, then go that route.

Problem with the MS is many of the big tuners won't touch it since its a "build it yourself" computer.

If you plan on paying for professional tuning, look into who is going to be tweaking your EMS before you purchase it and before you wire it into the car.
