AEM delays
Even though AEM is quoting end of May as a delivery date, I think it will later than that. I have decided to wait and go with AEM. If it's late June then so be it. I don't like it but I want the best for my FD. I know I might be making a mistake, I've made them before.

I've decided to wait for this product. Here is the latest from AEM.
"Ken,
As promised, I just came out of an EMS meeting. The release of the RX-7 box
has been moved slightly to 6-15-02. This looks very firm, as progress has
been good with the box.
I will keep you informed as to any changes.

Nothing personal but why are you wasting your time with an unproven product. You could be driving your car by now. The power FC with the datalogging software is all you will ever need or a Haltech. If you need someone else to work on your car do you really think that the many features of the aem will be beneficial to you?

Where did he say that he needed someone else to work on his car? I thought the AEM was user-friendly and all you needed was a laptop to tune it. If I were him I'd probably do the same; two months isnt too terribly long.
There is A LOT more involved in tuning than most people on this forum think. It's not just WOT FUEL settings. As a matter of fact that is the easiest to adjust. The AEM advertises a lot of adjustability but the more you can change, the more you can screw things up. The power FC is more than adequate, actually, it's too much for the majority of 7 owners

well looks like project 20B is getting a Haltech E6K + IG5
unless there is a pure race ver that I can program for a 3 rotor. or will the race unit run a rotary engine?

The supposed ability to split time a 3-rotor is another one of those annoying industry problems. There is no way the new AEM EMS is going to be able to run split timing on a 3-rotor. Split timing a 3-rotor requires 6 ignition channels, and the AEM only has 5. You may be able to get away with running it on 3 channels with an additional custom-made spark splitter with delay, but that would be a real pain to make. No, you can't run it with split timing and a waste spark safely. Yes, the AEM Race should be able to run a 3-rotor without split timing just fine, but I would wait to let others be the guinea pig for this new EMS, especially since it will probably take you a while to get your 20B project completed.

Why not get the racing version? More of a PITA, I know, but can't you get that now?

Okay, here's the deal. I called AEM, there is a meeting at the end of today on this. He promised to e-mail me tomorrow with the latest info on their product for the RX-7. As soon as I know I will let you know.

You have waited as have others, but I fear this product may never see the light of day, and you're car will be stuck in the corner of KDR even longer. You have a kick *** machine that is already to rock sans ECU, why not start enjoying it? I want to see your dyno numbers and times, that you post with you setup. AEM has been jerking you around forever. Come on Ken, please if not me, do it for your country???

I've been reading about Ken not having his car for about a year now. Waiting another year just for the ECU is borderline masochistic.

As I promised here's the latest and it's bad news:
"Ken,
Not so good news for you and the RX-7 world.
It looks like mid to late September. This is a very firm date, as the last
one was, but we have made some very substantial changes in the software that
make each system that much easier to work with and also expedites the set-up
time as you might have seen on some of the Supra forums.
Sorry for the less then exciting news,
Kirk Miller
It will be worth the wait."
Now I'm really ticked off. For months the firm date was 6-15-02 and I was patient. Maybe I should go PFC for now.
Darn, I could of had my car back two months ago.

Ouch.
I guess I'm glad I'll get my car back at the end of June after 16 months at KDR. I'll wait till the AEM is fully debugged before I switch. I don't care if that's next summer or the summer after that.
