what should i do?
To start off everything. I am a total noob at drifting. My friend wants me to go to the track with him in 2 weeks and he wants me to bring my FC. Its a S5 GXL. Its pretty much stock. It just has KYB AGX shocks with eibach springs. plus i just boke this car a week ago I kinda have some spare money on the side right now. i was wonder what modification should i do to get ready for this event. i was thinking about welding the differential, good idea? Oh yeah. i wanna keep this NA because the motor still runs pretty strong =]

not going to be doind much "drifting" w/o some sort of rear locking diff.
have you done any sort of car control classes or auto x?
might have more fun there instead, esp w/o a welded or lsd

You weld your gxl's lsd and you deserve to get bitch slapped.
Read my thread and the links in it. Mazdatrix gxl diff rebuild kit.
READ EVERYTHING. I'm going to do a VERY COMPREHENSIVE write up on how to turn your tired old clutch type diff into a working unit on the cheap. Just waiting on verification on if i'm doing it right. It'll be a better alternative to welded diff. The roads where i live get BAD when it rains so naturally, i've looked into alternatives that are very budget minded AND SAFE.
You have no experience in track racing?
Get your *** to an autocross event.
How do you do this?
Google. Find out where your local auto-x events are held (dont forget gymkhana and open drift practice) and make the time to go out there, watch, mingle, learn and practice.
Glad to see you have an interest in keeping it legal! That's good!

See if you can source a used S4 diff with a working LSD, and get yourself some DTSS eliminators. You can probably get a diff for ~$100 and I think the eliminators are ~$50, if I remember right.
+1 on hitting up an auto-x event to get a feel for your car.

Doesn't cost alot of money. DID YOU READ MY THREAD AND THE LINKS IN IT?
Read this ENTIRE THREAD. THE WHOLE THING. Not just two words and then posting "that's too much money". You weld your lsd and that's money in the trash. You daily drive an s2000 and are worried about money? Shame on you. Quit taking those girls out on dates with your droptop and you can afford nice ****.

READ NOOB. READ.
P.S. DTSS bushings dont cost ****. They're under $75. I paid $65 shipped for my MMR's from someone on here.
Mazdatrix has a comprehensive guide to pulling the old ones and installing the new ones.

I'm not buying squat. Also, that's not my thread that i posted a link to.
Pretty much, the guy machined the outer ring pictured there on his diff. He measured the play in his diff which was like 1mm and machined the outer ring down .5mm just so it would act normal and put it back together.
if the parts in your diff aren't broken/worn excessively (replace what is though) and it doesn't engage as you like, this is a cheap fix that isn't doing anything bad to the diff. You just take the end cap of the diff to the machine shop, tell them what you want and slap your **** back together.
Your local machine shop isn't going to charge much for taking a little bit off the face of something roughly 6" in diameter. The only thing i plan on paying for is LABOR and no way in hell it's going to cost more than $50 to do.

Maintance, if you have 2 weeks, just make sure everything is in order. When your out there, just "get a feel for the car". If you go all out, you may come out a badass, or you may crash. But have fun and make friends. Good Luck!

what I would do..
do a nice oil and filter change, coolant flush, new tranny fluid and diff fluid and your set. Honestly, you might have a really good lsd already, you wont know until you try it. If you worry that your going to spin out too much, just get tierod spacers from partsshopmax for free, just payshipping. Youll get so much more steering angle, and be less likely to spin out. Also remove the rear sway bar.. if for some reason the diff is open, just weld it.
