Someone teach me, I don't want to be a poser!!

I need to learn how to properly drift!!

I've been looking through the forum and seeing all the "in action" photos and vids of FC drifting, which (in my opinion) is what they were meant for xD!

I get so anxiously watching the videos that I feel my heart pounding, and that I want nothing more to do than drive my car and push her to the limit - without killing myself, bystanders, or demolishing my car.

Out of fear of crashing I don't... (track record not awesome with my previous cars).

Anyone in my area willing to take the time to teach me?! I'll pay for your gas!!

will help if you watch DRIFT BIBLE, to get a basic understanding of the already established drifting techniques. Not saying you'll be a pro drifter overnight, but it's a good starting point.

initial d is awful.

Download the drift bible, it wont teach you how to drift but youll get a handle on what you should be doing.

and 10000000x more important than that, GO TO EVENTS! Ask better drivers to ride with you, and try and ride with them! Watch what they do and listen to their advise and have fun!

^^ garbage. Initial d can teach because Tsuchiya was the lead editor or some crap.
SO initial d mentions true life technichs.

Plus its better to just go have fun. You will learn faster by just having fun and not stressing certain techiniches.

lo thanks for the help guys... I just wish I know where it would be safe for me to practice... anyone know anything local to the bay area region in california?

There's lots of canyons and mountain passes... but I can't seem to find a decent non-occupied parking lot, or just flat ground without too many tees nearby.

I used to live in Hayward and know an awesome spot down by San Leandro that's completely deserted at night. It's probably a 15-20 min drive from Castro Valley. I should be home next weekend and am will be up there in the east bay more than likely and can show you were it is if you want.

Hit me up through pm with your phone number or etc. I can't drift for crap btw, but at least you'll have a place to practice. I used to work there and it's pretty big. The boss didn't really care what went on there at night and would usually come in Monday morning telling us he was working late on a Saturday night and heard cars screeching all over the place, went to look, and just went back inside because he didn't really care as long as they didn't hit the building etc.

Speaking of that, do you ever hit any of the canyons up there? I used to drive my 7 through there all day and night when I delivered pizza's (not tofu lol) for Dominos over there on Castro Valley Blvd by the Caspers hotdogs.

Are you saying what i wrote is garbage?

Initial D is a romaticised and stupid cartoon. Tsuchiya sucks anyway, things arent good just because he had a hand in them. Disregard this dude. Watch the drift bible just so you get the lingo and the gist of what you should be doing and most importantly Find local events and go drive at them, done.

There's a locally sponsored drift comp and practice sessions held down in Stockton pretty frequently. The last one got cancelled because no one signed up to go.

http://www.stockton99.com/

I'd be there all the time if I wasn't on the road a month or two at a stretch.

Its rain season, perfect time to practice. Just find a spot that is safe, and away from any persons. Start off with donuts, then try to control a bigger dohnut, eventually a 2nd gear wide dohnut.. Then Try figure 8s, j turns, then right/left turns blahblah..

Yes, thats is what I said. Your answer is what everyone would say, so expected. But, some of us cant afford events, specially when they are never in town.
SO no local tracks and a broke kid with an itch to learn to control a car properly.
He's, most likely, not trying to be the best. He just want to be able to do it.

Just find spots that are safe. Industrial areas with wide open spaces are best. Never around square curbing or traffic.
Just have nice clean fun. You will learn.

Thunderdrift is the most prominent event in norcal. It's a bit of a drive but you'll definetly get the experience you're looking for there. And don't worry about being a noob at an event. That's what they're for and you wont be the only one.

http://thunderdrift.com/

And please don't say it's too far of a drive. I just got home from a 5hr drive from an event in a car that's a good two inches off the ground if not less. It can be done if you're dedicated enough.

go to events. drive, ride along with a good driver .. you can watch the driver and feel the characteristics of the vehicle so when you get in your own car you will have an idea. your in CA im sure there are alot of events within reasonable distance to make it out to and have some fun.

your not gonna learn **** from cartoons. maybe get a wheel for gt3 on ps2 and go at it. Gay as it sounds i think i learned alot from that game

I learned the ropes, street drifting.

But i learned 10x more in a year of events vs a year of street stuff.

Whatever. You suck anyway.

I have to agree, I learned alot more when I started doing events.
Street drifting is very limited..
Pretty much a bunch of right or left turns to drift and manji the straights..

Cj is a Meanie!

Yeah. Not everyone is as fortunate.

BUt i do agree you can learn faster in an event. Depending how crowded it is and how many runs allowed. no?

Depends on where you live but street drifting can be just as expensive with a hell of alot more risk. And most people don't go to events every weekend, once a month is average for people who are serious about it, some people even less. Street can be fun but the advantages of 6 straight hrs at an event over 30mins to an hour of street + 2hrs trying to dip the cops is pretty easy to see. Obviously it depends on where you live, what the streets are like and how much cops actually care. I mean there are places you can drift all day on roads with no curbs and no pot holes and the cops don't even worry about you.

And oh btw. If you have roadside assistance you can get your car towed to your house or to a shop for free or very cheap depending on your insurance company. It's like 8 extra bucks a month.

well... I do plan on going to events... I just don't want to suck when I'm there... at least not so bad at first... practice makes perfect!
My concern is definitely the investment it will require but my hard work will payoff and maybe i'll get sponsored... I also intend to go into import modeling during this process and hopefully catch more attention for sponsors... it'll be difficult, but I won't be discouraged!!!! xD
