SCCA / Formula D Interior strip alternitives
Hey guys,
I'm building a car for formula D next year and for farting around at SCCA club racing.
I really pride on interior of the car so I was wondering what are the race legal alternatives to a stripped out interior?
Maybe some special fire retardant carpet or maybe some sticky foil stuff?
Thanks!

you know you cant just go drive in formula d right? you need to earn a licence. doing proam or some crap. unless you have deep deep pockets.
Also interior sucks in a drift car. strip that crap out. and if you have deep deep pockets you can afford to have a dedicated drift car thats stripped.
fd rules are no carpet and junk. you can get away with it all at some proam stuff. but not rd 4 and definitly not at the actual pro fd stuff.
good luck man.

not trying to hate on you. Do your thing. but get the rule book for fd if you want to build a car for it. then build it to their specs.
Bucket, It seems like certain people get special treatment on certain things. its like anything. full interior sux.
I think they are only really strict about stuff for rd4. Idk though cuz I havent done all the rounds.

Guys,
I'm going out for PRO/AM, 2013. If I were pro, you would already know me.
The rules state nothing about interior, only cage and other safety stuff.
I have deep enough pockets to hire a small team ect. but this is how I'm choosing to start out- small time. I want to see how it goes.
I'm simply asking what are the alternatives to having a gutted pos of a drift car. Is there some foil looking stuff I could use to cover the floor boards??
Bucky, I've been a big fan of yours ever since you appeared on the scene. Could you explain how you are allowed to keep the carpet and plastics?
Tweak, my computers were best micro machines in the USA, but recently my company has fallen on hard times due to costs, economy, ect. and other bullshit. It's really none of your business and frankly, quite rude to mock me.

Not mocking, letting you know the link that you posted in your sig for everyone to see was dead, and that you are the CEO. But cool beans.
Gutting the carpet and interior is so that when your oil soaked carpet catches fire it doesn't kill or poison you or the safety crew. If there is nothing to catch fire but metal the fire will go out much faster. Build the car to FD specs as much as you can. From someone that actually does Seattle Pro-Am, I would not recommend doing anything but a full race car. The 5/8ths bank isn't anything to mess with. I am the only 5/8ths person that drives his car to the track and I am at a major disadvantage. If you got $ from your company or whatever, just do it right the first time. Either way, see you on the track! Come say hi! I am excited to see how well the E85 NA 13B does!

Thanks, I don't mean to be defensive it's really sad to see my life's work flushed down the *******... :P Moving on...
Well Okay, I get that, but is there some adhesive foil or something I could use instead of just the floor boards?
Yeah, I was waiting to do more to my car before I went and introduced myself. Anyways, My name is Tariq M Schmidt, I live in Olympia, drive a 88 GTU (i think) planning on a hi comp turbo setup on e85.
You can add me on facebook at /tmsmithy

For the interior you are only allowed the OEM dash. All other plastics, carpet, covers, etc need to be removed. You can keep the door cards.
Then you'll need 2x FIA approved seats, 2x FIA approved 5pt or 6pt harnesses, FIA approved fire extinguisher system. Finally you'll have to add a roll cage that is FD/SCCA legal.
All sound deadening must be removed. Which means you cannot add any "foil" back in. You can make a rally style foot plate though.
The dash must be stock or stock replacement(CF or FRP molded to look like OEM).
That is all taken from the 2012 FD rule book.

I gotta jump in here. I love drifting and and pursuing to do it more consitently(car keep breaking down).
It has been my daily so ergonomics are fairly important to me, especially for picking up the misses.
Here's a pic of my interior. I got it in probably a 5/10 condition and have gone through every panel to either replace it(for black interior) or fasten it down properly to prevent any rattles.(I dare you to find a rattle in my car! lol)
Kind of a crappy shot, but I say build it for what your gonna use it for. In my case, it's my daily'd drift car, so I arranged it for function and ergonomics.
