I was curious as to what people are using. I am pretty happy with NA. I dont have too hard of a time drifting. Granted I get made fun of for running 15s lol.

Ive had both, if you are looking to compete go turbo if you just want to have fun a NA is enough for sliding around.

that sums it up right there.

im n/a now, and starting to get the hang of it. been trying to get boosted all season but i run into other things i have to buy..

it's sooo annoying watching all the sr'd 240's slide around with a touch of the gas

haha figured you all were gona say pretty much what I have been feeling. Sadly the local track is pretty much a 2nd gear course unless they let us out on to the oval. However it does suck to see sr guys just build up some boost and start smoking tires.

I have done both as well

I started out in a NA, I did a lot of stuff to it, rebuild, streetport, racingbeat true dual system

and it was really hard and annoying to watch the 240's guy do it so easy, but i never really thought anything of it untill i actually started going to events

trust me when I say, you will become a 100x better driver for trying to drift a NA then switching to something with boost

Start off n/a then go turbo later when you get seat time. You will learn much more then just jumping in a high powered car.

+1 to starting n/a

when i first started drifting i was so mad and wanted turbo asap, but now im glad i started n/a after seeing so many deuchebags with a 240 with a rb swap just floor it all day and just spin in circles because they don't have any technique.

One thing you guys need to realize about the 240 guys is that thier weight distribution is WAAAAYYY Different then ours. They dont NEED mad power to get an S chassis sideways. They way the balancing and center of gravity is on those cars makes them have the tendancy to get the rear end to snap out easier then the FC.

The sweet thing about the FC is the way it flows when you get your rear end loose!! 240's, unless with a well tuned suspension, look sloppy and tend to over oversteer.

So my story is this, a Turbo in an FC gives it the ability to get broke loose easier, and keep her loose. The N/A just has a harder time getting the rear end to come out and stay because of the low polar moment. Ill find the thread about Polar moment and post a link or quote it in a new thread.

it's a good read. i think its in the n/a drifting thread. aanndd fc's look WAY smoother drifting compared to 240's.

i have noticed that once the rear end comes out, it's very slippery. any n/a guys try running without a rear swaybar? john aka "oilcover" (he's not really a member here, probably less than 10 posts) said it makes the car feel more like a 240 and less twitchy.

Lol I think that the only reason a s chassis looks sloppy is because of driver talent. Most people who have 240s are just getting into drifting and it is a great platform to start with, it is very forgivable. With its slightly longer wheelbase and decent amount of steering angle you really dont have to worry about that snap you get if you **** up, well in my experience anyways.

With the FC though you have to go all or nothing I find to keep up the same amount of speed and angle I have to be in more throttle and continually work the wheel, and the start of the drift had to be pretty good if I wanted to make it all the way through and use alot more turn in than the s chassis. ON the 240 i could just turn out and back in quick to upset the balance to get going at a lower speed then just apply enough throttle to keep the tire speed up. On the FC I can do the same thing but it takes it a lil bit more to get it going and I have to apply power alot sooner also. normally on the cut back I get in the gas with the FC like as soon as I cut my wheel back into the curve the 240 I could wait until I had already turned the wheel.

The fb is a blast though and I think I like it NA, it feels like you could conquer the world lol. Just go in fast let off at the entrance, turn in and mash the gas and you'll go around, but then halfway through you loose some speed and you say damn you 12a and you swap in a ported 13b...or is that just me.

you really do have to go ***** out with the FC, and it does seem to me like if i get a good entry im solid throughout the corner.

Do you slide up the track a good bit right after you start sliding, this was a problem for me wen I moved from the fc to the s chassis and then back to the fc again. I got a lil better through that time and kept upping my entry speed and found that I could enter lower than the 240 but I would slide up track much more quickly. Now that I am out of practice though i couldnt tell you how it is now.

I wish I still had some vids from when i first started they were good for a laugh or 2.

it took me driving all platforms sideways, to figure out how unique the fc was....

at first it was just taken for granted, and i didnt understand that the fc needed constant steering imput.... i drove ae86's, and was killing em, older mr2's, and all s chassis... i was sliding em like no ones buisness. then i hopped back in the fc, and it became way more clear to me. only thing i couldnt do in the fc was chokie's, i would get 2 motions in, and be going toooo fast, and the third i usually spun. couple of weeks ago, i was chok'n a s13, and ****** was goin for days. so when i get the fc back, i will see what i can make it happen.

last event was at the new Portland International Raceway in Portland, Oregon, entering at 60+ mph was new to me, never drifted in 3rd gear before. strangely lifting off and sort of power-overing would send me into the dirt, while turning in with a light clutch kick would set me up perfectly.

this is what was happening with power over..

The entry is really the most important part. Mess that up and the rest of the drift looks akword. The heavy feint I used to get my carolla sideways was probably the only reason I was able to establish anything you could consider a drift through the rest of the turn. The car was a stock 86 carolla sr5 with a cracked head, bad ring and pinion and a welded rear but I muscled that thing like there was no tomorrow. The turn was a fast reducing radius right hand sweeper.
(note the front pass tire off the ground after the transition in the second pic.)

Here's a video, although it only works on certain computers and I lost the original.

Here's another although it's a much worse run. Notice the entry.

you mean choku-dori, and manji?

you're not allowed to rep the west coast if you're gonna talk like that..

and this is the best example of manji-ing youtube has to offer..
