my first drift day( wow i suck)
well this was interesting. my first drift day, in any car for that matter and i have to say it definitely is not easy. my car is a 87 TII with a rebuilt jspec S5 with only 1200 miles on it. original suspension, front mount, supra pump, and stock boost. i couldn't even remotely pull off something coherent of a drift. i was trying too many things and i was nervous. the organizers should have done a better job at getting the driver's more equal seat time, rather than let the ****** D/A guys do their demo. sure it is nice to see some experienced drivers but it sucks when you have to wait two hours between runs and some people got more consecutive passes( guess who didn't?). anyways, i know what i need to do to improve but it's hard when there are no legal places other than track drift days, and you don't get good quality seat time.

well follow drifting back to what it was originaly, ilegal just be carfull, dont go out by your self and dont get caught by the boys in blue find a nice and quiet road. I am suprised that you cuoldn't get some sort of drift out of a t2 my friend could get his 88 NA to go side ways at 45-55 by heel toeing and yankin the wheel sadly I have his car now 350$ to have it delivered.....it kissed three or more trees at 55 danm snow. did you try evrey thing heel/toe, clutch kick, e-brake?

the sad part was he was going in a strait line and he wasent drifting in the snow I don't know how he pulled that off but its my parts car now, so what do want him to do rent a track for a day? $$$$$ so he's just gonna havta make the most of the seat time on a track or do it ilegaly just be carfull

HAHA autocross hates drifting with a passion, i swear out. or at least out here, we had a autox day on a slick parking lot, so everyone was sliding a bit. And my friend with a 20v corolla was trying his hardest to stick but was still fishtailing at the end of the corners and they kept yelling and threatening to kick him out. But with that power on that small of a wheel base, what do you expect.. There was a lot of discrimination against anything concidered a drift car though, this mustang kept powersliding the whole damn turn and didnt get any **** at all.

too bad you guys dont live in florida we got at least 3 drift events a month hear all within an 1 1/2 hours from me. i've gotten shitloads of seat time. and i love representing south florida. i'm one of the few fd's sliding out there so i get most respect that way.
but to the original poster. just keep going at it. it sucks when you dont have a lot of events, but just keep trying. i try staying off the streets but thats jut because of my bad luck. always nice to see fellow rotary drifters

I would suggest that you get some time in on autocrosses. Even if its not your thing, you'll learn alot about handling and driving. Well worth the time, even if its just to learn how to drive in some other type of event...

i actually have been attending some auto-x events since the drift day. it definitely let me get into the groove of this car. i like the way the auto-x events are put together, more grown up and professional. since the last drift event i have fixed most of the mechanical reasons why my drifting was lacking skill, now to fix the biggest problem( learning how to drift properly). i think my biggest problem my first time out was trying to drift every corner on the course. the next event i will pick a few corners and try to pull clean drifts.

yea my first drift day was at e-town, i also went to an auto-x at commerce bank ball park held by bmw scca. i'm actually going to one this sunday at meadowlands. i think e-town needs to get their **** together when it comes to the drift events. more organization, less letting their buddies have so much track time, and not letting the track owners shut it down so early.

Autox is good for beginners to feel their car and push to a certain limit.
but some 'rented' parking lots are so rough and crappy.
Not to mention all the old farts who run the ****. Always bitching.
D Days are cool, younger crowd, everyone is ready to learn.
Not to mention its extremely fun and addicting.
As long as you don't hit fences and destroy the grass too much.
Practice , Practice , Practice! and take advice from better drivers.

Englishtown started drifting on the east coast. Get to know the guys running it and you will get more runs, The reason they get all the runs is cause they started this event and have been running it for the last 6 years. You said it your self, you couldn't even remotely pull off something coherent of a drift. When you get better and don't spin out twice every run you might get bumped up to b class and get more runs in.

there are spots all over, u just gotta find em. talk to the event organizers n try to have em get a drift 101 type deal.

i went to a drift school the next day, and also brought my 4 extra. it was dry out, and after probably at least 30 minutes of seat time i only completely went through the rear tires i drove to the events on. i still drove home on those tires, but i'll be getting new ones as soon as i get my paycheck.
so, my suggestion is bring 2, just in case, but you probably wont even need them.

also depends on the surface of the event, how much rear camber your running. a trick me and a few buddies use is run the rear tires opposite the directional tread pattern. they last a bit longer and dont shred. this works real well with feddie ss595's. 6 hours of drifting with perfect camber and only one brand new pair used
