FC Gearbox problems when drifting- heat?

Has anyone experienced problems with their FC gearbox not wanting to shift cleanly after a while when drifting?

It happened to my car on the last drift day, and seems to be happening to another drift FC too, and im wondering if its heat from the exhaust thats doing it?

I use Redline shockproof gear oil which is like water at the best of times, and the transmission tunnel and even gearstick gets too hot to touch after a while, so the box must get mega hot, but not sure if this is the problem?

Anyone else had this? It either was hard to get in to gear, or I thought it had shifted ok but ended up in nautral instead (i thought i got it in gear and it jumped out of gear, but im not sure)

I might heatwrap the entire exhaust and see if that helps...

Never had a problem with a FC gearbox. Only broke one drove it two years daily with 375whp.

I have bent two shift forks by trying to jam it in third and it went between 3rd and 5th. This was caused by not having the bushings in the shifter assembly though.

yeahh!!! I had this problem before !!! After a hard 30min canyon run, my tranny would get jammed in 5th gear, or something. Sometimes itl be stuck in neutral. After it cools down, it becomes normal again.... I think it just has to do with the tranny overheating...

Yeah, thats what im wondering.

Normally it was fine, but it was a hot day and the car was getting some serious abuse and it suddenly started getting like that.

And once it was cooler and normal again it was fine.

So im fairly sure its heat related, and jus wondered if others had this issue.

Reckon ill heat wrap the system anyhow to see if it helps.

I wonder if you can do a tranny oil cooler setup?? It might help..
This never happened at the track for me though, because after your run, you have time to let everything cool .. This was happening when I was still 16years old and grip driving it hard in the canyons... Irember after stopping on ared light, and being stuck in neutral. It would not let me enter any gears excpt 5th and reverse. After being stuck for like 10min, everything was normal again//

Yeah this was after about 4 laps drifting the track and the engine had been running for maybe an hour or so beforehand (3-4 laps of track then 10min waiting to run again), the trans tunnel was hot enough to take the skin off my fingers even touching it for less than a second so it was plenty hot.

Trans cooler is deffo do-able as we fitted box and diff coolers to our GTR, but I think maybe just wrapping the exhaust might be ok as thats clearly where most the heat is coming from.

Worth a try anyhow!

T2 transmissions don't like to shift above 7500 whether they're cold or hot, they also don't like to powershift, and it's really a pain in the *** when you have to upshift in drift. Going to a unsprung 3 or 4 puck clutch disc helps, or a small diameter multi-plate clutch.

Ive got an OSG twin plate in it, but was shifting high (7500-8000) and your right, it deffo dont like poweshifting up while drifting!

But it deffo got far worse when hot. Im on the case with the extra heat sheilding/wrapping this weekend hopefully.
