if you've ever DRIFTED a stock SR you'll understand why this isnt worthwhile.
look at US drifting right now. a 400-500whp SR is slowly starting to fade out, and in turn V8's are coming in...
SR's have horrible head designs, as well as WEAKK tranny setups. where as an FC has neither of those problems. (duh)
my stock motor throws down harder than that FC dudes t28 SR.
this video is horrible but it's all i've got to compare a stock port/turbo/timing 13bt against an SR.
the front car is Forrest's Full Race GT3071r/cams motor on 275 advans
the second S13 is Ray's Full Race 2871r stock head/bottom end on 275 federals.
both cars making 400whp. Forrest's setup is almost $10k. Ray's setup is still like $5-8k (less cams/tons of fittings/clutch)
my car has stock turbo, stock ports, stock timing, just upped boost, race gas/dry ice packed IC, bigger injectors, and no tuning on 235 Hankooks.

if you invest a little money into your current motor, and stop daydreaming you'll be amazed at what seat time, and your motor will do.
finding an SR/tranny is between $1,500 and $3k for stock turbo stock clutch. IF it runs you'll have to mount it up/rework the oil pan another $1k easy. custom driveshaft $400 then ECU. instead of rewiring everything to use stock ECU you might as well go standalone with nistune or something which is another $1k (generous) if you're doing standalone to run the stock turbo, thats stupid, so you might as well get a 2871/manifold. there's another $1-2K. you'll then need a clutch, bigger injectors, fuel pump, fuel rail, FPR, exhaust, wastegate, catch cans, etc which is EASILY going to be $2k by the time you get shipping figured in.
if $5k-$10k is the price you're willing to pay to get everything in and running, then go for it. keep in mind you'll be breaking trannys all day

SRs are about as reliable as rotaries, but don't sound cool, and have way more parts in them. Never having to rely on a machine shop, and never having to buy aftermarket internals is pretty nice.

Come to think of it, the 4 FCs I have drifted with up here, none were rotary. 1 FD was still rotary I think.

Man some of yall are just so closed minded. I agree about rotaries in RX7s but there no need to trash talk SR20s. I own an SR 240 and have owned of 10 of them, they are more reliable than a rotary from my experience, take more of a beating, are easy to work on and rarely does anything go bad as long as the swap is done right and the engine is maintained. To the guy that said the head design sucks, have you ever looked at a flow chart for SR Heads the flow just as much as a 4G Mitsu head or B-series Head but with MORE velocity. I love my RX7 but no reason to bash other options out there. Never gone thru a tranny so I dont know where you're getting that from, its all in how you drive. I dont think an SR or 13b is better you could sit here and do the piston vs. rotary thing all day. Theyre just different and capable to achieving great things. What ever floats your boat.

Anyway i've said the same. SR=/=rotary. ALot of people who sent me requests on fb have sr20's. CONSTANTLY breaking and rebuilding them just like the guys who slide turbo rotors. I like it because it's different. I'm not going to try to talk you out of it if your heart is set but they are notorious for spitting out rod bearings, breaking valvetrain components and occasionally tossing bits right of the block regardless of how well you keep after your motor. Some run forever, some last a few months before dying a horrible death. I used to want an sr20 badly. Just because of weight, revs and factory turbo and nistune/rom tune capability. I had no idea they like to trash rod bearings. Maybe it has something to do with the stock studs? I dunno. They dont have nasty oiling issues like rb's do.
They aren't bad motors. Neither are rotaries. They just need the RIGHT amount of lovin' to get **** done.
If you still like the 4 cylinder idea you have several other options. There's the 4age variants, 3sgte and ka24 off the top of my head. Volvo is another alternative.

I did see this weird *** engine with the head pulled when i went to the yard doing top secret **** last month. It was a sixer but it was an offset six. Like

Not a v motor either. Blew my mind. I wanna say it was in a volvo too but i'm not sure and i didn't get in close enough to see if it had two cranks and some crazy witchcraft going on or what. It was wild.
