I do more steering with the gas pedal than I do with the steering wheel. The hardest thing about no ps is turning around in the pit/staging area.

There is not much steering feel in drifting. Steering feel is more of a grip thing where you need to sense under/oversteer. When I drift I get my inputs through the seat not the wheel. Keep PS, you are doing a disservice to yourself by removing it, especially in our cars.

*For those with no power steering!

What is the ratio of your steering racks?

Stock steering box 15.83:1 (according to the fsm).

Besides, its a preference not a better or worse.

You can flick a powered wheel faster than a non-powered wheel. To me that means I can whip the car harder from one turn to another and take advantage of the snap oversteer and low polar moment of the car.

Asterisk: My advice, if aint broke dont fix it. That's the only reason I did it to mine, and well I just prefer it that way.

Yallgotboost: Please tell me how drifting without PS is retarded. I'm about graduate from UCLA with a degree in mechanical engineering, I have just completed a reasearch program and won second place in a recent poster competition for my research in the effect of particle size and processing on a ceramic/polymer composite, and I'd like to think I am not retarted. Where are you getting this from? lol Just check your words before you type please.

That's pretty cool Alex, it's good to see you are still in that field. Hell, you drove cross country in your fc twice for it.

Haha thanks man, and my car still runs! I don't know how but it even drifts lol. Hopefully next year I can show some of these newbies how to drift a cheap drifter better than these guys with an actual setup. But school is crazy busy what can I say.

*Sorry for the small thread jack, ya'll can go back on topic.

I had a power steering rack and I had bought some tie-rod spacers for it . But now that i've swapped the manual rack in , my spacers only fit on the left side as the passerger uses much bigger thread . My question is where can I get manual steering rack spacers for a 88' na ?

Im on a de-powered rack and it works fine. I have no problems at all. I woould like eps (electronic power steering) but not hydralic power steering

On my fc that is not my fb it has a respeed rack which is awesome btw

personally (you can care or don't even care cause I don't care) I like the whole de-powered p/s rack...been using in for about a year now and it isn't that bad for higher speed drifts or long course drifts with lots of hair-pin turns and 90 degree corners...the thing to watch out for on a manual or de-powered steering rack is your thumbs, I've pop'd my right thumb out of place twice due to me wanting to wrap my thumb around the steering wheel...but for some reason it doesn't scare or bother me because I'm having so much fun (well of course when I feel the pain). P/S is a commodity that will ease your upper body significantly...the steering will be a "work out" and may be hard at first but don't get discouraged. Smaller courses and gymkhana will be tough but is manageable, personally never done it but many friends of mine who own FC's say its no problem and I've witnessed it. If you have a working p/s rack keep it for when you get older or even when you may one it back and then buy yourself a manual rack; this is so that if you do want to go back all you got to do is switch them out. If you want to de-power just search on here. I like no power steering, but everyone has there own opinions good or bad.

Thumbs out! That's a habit you need to break or it will end up breaking your thumbs.

Is the steering on an FC so heavy with a set of light 16's that you would really need PS for drifting.

I have an fb, i have drifted it since i got it. manual rack and no ps, its hard when you are at slow speeds but for drifting i love it, i have more of a feel for the road. about the whipping action, well i beleive there is more whip w/o ps becaus emy car whips like crazy, i have to stabalise it with a bit more throtle.

But like the other members said, if it's not broken dont fix it, i have no ps because i bought it w/o one and just liek it like that, but if it had come with one, would not change it.

i had it eliminated on my fd, i never got around to drifting it much at all but i played around with it. i would say i prefer power steering but it can be done, it depends on your style i think. if you have it, leave it alone. because if i kept that car i would have put it back in.

I started drifting with no PS and so I don't like driving cars that do. I prefer no PS but you can drift either way. Whatever you do don't get a manual rack. Manual racks have a slower ratio and can't use steering spacers(as mentioned above). The right way is to convert your power rack to manual.

Drifting without power steering is retarded. It doesn't make your car very much lighter, it makes it harder to turn when you're going slow, and even when you're drifting, it's better to be able to throw your wheel the other way instead of having to turn it all the way with your hands.

Well It may be true about being easier to turn with the power steering. If you changed your steering wheel like I did. You hate the feeling of know knowin where you are cause of a little wheel. To me its better and easier with no ps to drift cause I can feel exactly where I am. I still have my ps but a split in my ps line took care of the fluid so, if you like the ease of turning than ps on... If you want to know and feel exactly where you are and fight for you knowledge of the car no ps. To each there own I live no ps personally I cant wait to get my new steering wheel instead of the little *** one I have.
