coilovers for drifting

i was just wondering what coilovers you guys are using for your drift setup?
why did you guys go with that particular coilover?
how are they holding up?
and if you could do it over again, which coilovers would you guys get?

Stance GR+

Came with the car

They're decent. Need to work on other aspects of the car before I can get a good feel for them. They dont go near low enough in the rear without droping the spring. Preloading about 2 inches puts the rear fenders over my 235/45/17's (I cant even imagine the wheel gap on 215/40/17's). I'm ordering shorter shock casings but I think it's BS that I need to.

If I could choose I would probably get PSM coilovers.

You must not be adjusting the stances right...

My black car still had 1" of adjustment to go lower, I wasn't even at max low on my stances.

My red car is close to full low, but it's on 18s so the car is higher because of the wheels.

Anyway, stances hold up well. I've had stances for a while now, and they feel fine for drifting.

I have heard nothing bad about the PBM ones. I will be ordering them as soon as I get the funds. Same with Meagans if you can find some cheap.

ilia:

I want to be damn near close to tucking rim. The coilover is threaded all the way into the mounting bracket. I'm only on 17's though.

What size tires were on your black car? I want to be lower than that since I'm on stock body but that's better looking ride height than what I'm at right now. Were you adjusting by the spring height, or the strut height, or both?

I lowered the spring about 3 inches in the "who has the lowest fc" thread. It just isnt enough by lowering the shock all the way.

i've got Megan Streets on mine. they are ok for a beginning set up but their camber plates and studs suck *****. all the studs use a 12mm instead of a 14mm and the actually studs are smaller so if they are loose they move around. i'll be saving up for something better like JIC, i had a chance to look at JTP's when he was at my School running on the dyno, i liked them. i don't like the Stance's valve adjustments are on the bottom of the coilover in the front or rear, i don't remember.

I was nearly tucking rim on my 17s. Thread the coilovers all the way down, and if that doesn't work, call Stance/TF and buy some shorter springs. They're like $60 an axle, and if you go like 25mm shorter than your current spring length, you'll be good.

/\ to ilia and the other guy, did you have the individual rear camber adjusters installed and camber dialed in? That would help get the car "more flush" cause w/o them, you have like over -2* back there.

i'd recommend stances, probably best bang for buck coilover you can get for FC.

whatever brand you want, let me know, I can get them (and other brands) for a pretty good price.

no, i've never even heard of EVX's before. but if they are basically Megans then HKS has either gone down hill or maybe they fixed that little problem i spoke of and went up hill

i stopped researching after picking up my Megans, they are good enough for right now so i'll leave well enough alone.

also, you can't slam the front end on them
the rear you could almost drag muffler with though. i've adjusted them man times to figure out if i was doing it wrong but i'm as low as they can go in the front and it's not low enough for me

megans are COPIES of apex coilovers.

and they slam pretty well, not as well as stances but still pretty low (shock all the way down)

**** I thought stances go low without drooping the spring. If thats what you have to do then **** that bullshit. IMO Drooping springs completely defeats the purpose of coilovers. thats like buying coilovers for looks and looks only. Im probably not gonna buy stance now. I think ill stick to my Cusco's or maybe GP Sports. I want to slam my car and still be able to have some spring preload.

I'm not drooping spring right now, at my current ride height.

Yeah but you're on 18's too. Havent been able to compare them side by side yet but you're definetly tucking ALOT more tire than me. Maybe it's just because my tires are so damn meaty....

I set my spring back up a few days ago and it's making me sad. I'll take pics tommorow, maybe there's something different about mine that the guy forgot to tell me.
