Going From OEM Blue to Black Interior, How ?!

Well, I'm currently thinking of completly redoing the stock OEM Blue interior on my ''87 FC to a complete black interior. I was just going to go to an upholstrey shop and have them take care of all the carpet and caro bin, but what how would I go about changing my blue dash for a black one ?

Few ideas here.
1. Buy an aftermarket dash
2. Maybe a junkyard has a black dash
3. Spray paint, multiple layers is key, along with a little clear coat/gloss.

I did mine in red.. Can supply pics if wanted.

Duplicolor makes a trim paint.
get the Flat black,not gloss.
I did my dash 4 years ago and it is still holding up,even with 174.2 Farenheit Inside car temp(measured with a heat gun this year).

Use the Duplicolor Vinyl and Fabric paint/dye, not regular paint. I dyed a grey S4 interior black, and looks roughly the same as the black S5 interior. It doesn't scratch off like paint does either.

This thread may help answer most of your questions:
https://www.rx7club.com/interior-ext...thread-823903/

The FD uses a lot of the same materials for its trim pieces that the FC does. Since the blue interior in my 87 GXL is in good overall shape, I am considering painting/dying it black as well. One of the S5 lower B-pillar trims I got from a well-known rotorhead in Tennessee had some of the mounting points break off in shipping due to age/fatigue/removal. After trying to fix them with JB Weld and seeing it fail upon reinstall, most likely due to poor surface prep (sanding drum on a dremel at low speed), I've determined that painting/dying my blue pieces will hold up better as they've never been removed from the car.

From what I see in the thread, the process is to use degreaser first, then rubbing alcohol, then adhesion promoter and the paint last.

Please keep in mind that the dye may not match the rest of the interior or may blotch, be careful with doing this. Maybe better to buy the pieces in the color you need.
