Word from the organizer... ME!

To begin I want to thank all those who helped me with organizing this event...

I also want to appologize for being little wishy washy.. I know I stated that I quit couple of months ago, due to some frustration on this forum, work, personal issues, selling my first car I've ever bought, buying an RX2, Buying a salvaged FD, fixing all these cars, building my first FD, organizing a personal event in Vegas, etc... Either case, I've recieved a lot of help from local friends, fellow rotorheads, and some distant friends from the past... Anyhow, I am back and things are ROLLING!

As most of you could see, We are getting great support from MANY vendors around the country. I've spoken with most of them and they all are excited about the event and all think highly about the event.

Also, we are finally getting some recognition from nationwide magazines. I've recently recieved an email from MazdaSport magazine and they will cover this years event. Also Mazda Fuel magazine will write a short segment about me and the event.

I've also been talking to people at Mazda and got an email to a lady who support events like this. I'm going to see if we could finally get a Support from Mazda USA.

I hope all of you who are reading this would attend this years event.. I initially organized it so we could meet fellow rotorheads and also drive the cars we love... And who knows, some of you might meet someone at this event and event get engaged (as two people did @ last years event). And also on a sad note, one of RX7 member passed away couple of weeks ago.. He's name was Mark White and I met Mark during one of Rotary get togethers.. He and I talked in great deal about DGRR (aka Mazda Rotaries @ Deals Gap) and I'm dedicating this years event in memory of Mark. He was a great man and great member of Rotary Community. RIP Mark!

Hope to see you all and if I'm bit crazy on this forum or when you see me, please understand I have alot in my mind..

Thank you!

PHILIP SOHN

PS.. Now the negative part about this event..
This event is held on public ROADS. Please behave on the road. Its not a closed circuit race track or drag strip. You MUST obey all the traffic rules and regulations and those who act immature or STUPID, I will not allow you to be part and I will personally contact local law enforcement. Please be respectful to your fellow rotorheads and communities surrounding Deals Gap.

I hope I speak for the majority when I say we completely understand. This is a big undertaking, as I know first hand from being there from the initial talk about the event driving down the freeway from RR, till now. We both knew this would take a tremendous amount of time and energy and I have tried to take some of the stress and responsibility off you by doing what I can to help, me knowing you personally, I knew that when you said you were done you really didnt mean it, this is your baby, no matter what headaches it brings about, you cant just walk away. Plus I knew you wouldnt leave the total responsibility to plan this event completely up to me . If some people dont understand, oh well, they will get over it, we are shaping this event into becoming the biggest rotary gathering this side of the Mississippi. We agreed before that we wouldnt be able to please everyone, and all that we would try and do is make this the best gathering of rotorheads worldwide and I can honestly say the we are well on our way. All I can say is thanks for taking on the majority of the responsibility, cause I know if we had of decided that I would do it, the first event may not have gotten off the ground.

You're both doing an outstanding job! Thanks for giving us all this opportunity to get together, meet new people and have some fun with our great cars! I'm already looking forward to DGRR 2008, 2009, 2010 and so on! This one of my favorite times of the year!

I've also been talking to people at Mazda and got an email to a lady who support events like this. I'm going to see if we could finally get a Support from Mazda USA.
SWEET.

While you're doing dedications, it might be appropriate to add guitarjunkie28 as well. HE was on the west coast and most probbbly didnt know him, but he was a respected rotary builder and tuner.

Looks like guys from West coast are planning something for him.. Are you going to go attend since you knew him?

Or donation for him.

Clearly there's no way I can head off to the west coast, but I did make a donation. It was just a thought.

Kevin,

Not to be an *** but since you are at it, did you ask people in the west coast to dedicate a drive to Mark White? Maybe collect donations in behave for Mark?

Only reason I'm dedicating this event to Mark is because I've personally dealt, hung out, brain stormed with him about THIS particular event. I don't think its "appropriate" for me to co-dedicate an event to someone I've never met and take away importance of remembering someone I knew dearly and pain Mark had to go thru for many many years dealing with ALS! I hate to sound like some harsh ********, but you kind of put me in a weird situation..

I do feel bad for guitarjunkie28 and I am happy that people who loved him in West coasts are doing something for him.. But you to ask me to lessen the memory of personal friend and family who might attend this event seem bit lessening the meaning of me solely dedicating this event for Mark.. Hope you understand and hope you don't take this personally.. Just explaining my situation..

Again, thanks for your support for this event!

While the lost of any life is equally devastating especially here because of our tight community, and we are greatly saddened by the lost of guitarjunkie28, in no way are we trying to downplay or make his death any less important, our prayers are with his family but we knew Mark personally, and like Phil mentioned his friends and family are planning and doing things to remember him in their way, this is our way to remember Mark.

Sorry, I wasn't aware he was one of your best friends. You'd said to me earlier that you'd "heard of his death" and so I figured he was someone you "knew of", not someone you "knew" or you'd have known about it sooner. So it was my assumption (you know what they say) that you were doing the dedication simply because he was a rotary guy that a lot of people knew.

Sorry if I put you in some sort of difficult position, I would never have imagined a conflict of interest of any sort. I don't have a dog in the race either way, it was just a thought. It's your event to do with as you please, and I wouldnt want you to feel like it took anything away from your friend's memory.
