Share your crappy road trip story

Im posting this from the side of the highway as i fix a blown intercooler coupler for the SECOND time in the last 20 miles!
This stupid thing just doesnt want to stay connect
Driving without boost sucks so i hope it holds this time

Guess i should be thankful its a simple problem and not something serious!

Anyone else have some "fun" surprises along the way?

Last year I had only got my car out of the body shop 3 hours before leaving for DGRR. Turns out the shop didnt secure the wire harness in the fender and on the border of NJ and PA my car just died and wouldnt start again. I had to sit on the side of the road for 40 minutes fixing the harness before I could get back up and running.

Nice meeting everyone I got a chance to out there, had a great time.

It was my first time driving mountain roads, so I had a blast, can't wait to upgrade my suspension and come back for more!

I didn't wake up early enough for the car show, but I snapped pics when I went out for an afternoon cruise.

Let's see...

Blew the rear rotor coming through The Dragon for the first time on Thursday night.

Friday I went on the long cruise, and I kept pace with everyone (even managed to drop a few people).

Saturday I decided to not push my luck because it was getting harder to start. I rented a mountain bike from Bryson City Bikes (awesome people BTW) and went mountain biking. It was a good thing, because my passenger front wheel ate itself and I lost my brakes as a result. It disintegrated at about 7pm. My parents were on the road by 10pm, and they got there at 9am today with a u-haul dolley. We made it home ~30 minutes ago.

wow man.......i think you win the crappy luck award. how does a wheel eat itself?

its just parts though, gives you a reason to upgrade!

how did you like the trail riding? i stopped in to NOC to check on bike rentals, but we didnt have time to go before they closed. gonna try and go out there again in 5 or 6 weeks and definitely ride a trail or two.

Evot23 and I had the opposite luck. Between Atlanta and the Florida State Line we passed a couple of NICE old school Datsun's...then a beautiful RX2...and an RX3...and another RX3. All in immaculate shape!

We cruised with them for about 20 minutes and they pulled over in Valdosta for gas so we stopped and took pictures and video and chatted. These guys were out of Atlanta and had been up at the Mitty. Their cars were incredible! Absolutely beautiful! Evot23 will post some pics I'm sure. Also...these guys drag race their cars...when they popped the engine bays...some nice work. Let's just say Evot23 and I may have been doing about 110 and one of the RX3's and the RX2 came flying up behind us. Pretty damn sweet!

The trail riding was awesome. I was on a Marin Nail Trail 29er w/a 22" frame. $50 for the rental, including a rack and helmet. I rode at Tsali. It kicked my ***, but it was a blast.

I'm game. IDK if I'll be down next year because I'll be in grad school and I may not have my car functional by then.

On the way to the gap during the Friday drive, I hit a bump at a bridge and it ripped off my V-band. I pulled off with exhaust dragging and put the cat back in the hatch. Stopped and asked the photographer for killboy about a muffler shop. He told me about one in Robbinsville. Continued on to Robbinsville and had the local muffler shop weld it back on.

While I was cruising back home, some Subaru drove in front of me and gave me the hazards. I think he thought we were racing. I guess that isn't as bad as it is funny.

That happened to my buddy on the Dragon. He was driving our other friends FD and the tire ate through the body harness. Exposed the conductors on a lot of wires, and frayed one of the ignition wires causing it to ground out on the shielding. Some electrical tape and a few but crimps later and we had her running again. As for myself my AST bracket broke off cause it to fall into my belts. Put a huge gash in the AST, and some nice scratches on my idler pulley. Luckily it didn't puncture it or tear up any of the hoses. Ended up zip tieing it to my intercooler piping. Didn't notice at the time but it must have putt some tears in the accessory belt, because after my first run on the dragon the belt was missing 2 ribs and coming off the pulleys. Got the remaining 3 ribs back on and made it back to the cabin and then back into bryson city to get a replacement.

Riches "best of show" winning car is probably one of the worst smelling vehicles ever. I think the EPA should be notified about its existence. Following him for more then 15 minutes on the highway results in a headache and nausea That's about all the problems I had minus my coolant overflow tank that overflowed.

Haaaa. The worst is the eye burning. Its what I imagine the clap feels like but in your eye. I do actually enjoy the high I get from his exhaust fumes.
