Holy crazy long thread all of a sudden about something so simple as signing a piece of paper!!!

While I think it is a shame that Phil has to do this, I do understand. Especially with the minors, for some reason, >18yr olds tend to have a hero complex when it comes to their cars.

See you guys Friday morning!!!

Phil, I know exactly where you are coming from on this. I organized a gathering over the winter for some snow drifting. Someone hit a fence and did damage to their truck. They took full responsibility, so I was fine (or should I say lucky) there. I then found out that I was liable. Believe me, I was furious. How could I be liable for someone over driving their automobile? The reality was; I organized it. Plain and simple. The law is written in a way where if you are part of the masses, you don't have to think for yourself. It's believed someone else will do it for you.

I have printed extras and will try to have the people in our caravan fill them out, prior to us meeting with you. Great job with everything Phil. See you tomorrow.

Thanks Joe for the support and kind words..

The postings lask night does make me worry about some of you and waiver will be highly enforced! Everyone must understand, I have the right to ask you to leave the area as I've rented the place and I'm the event organizer! If you disagree the way I organized it, I'm sorry, you have the right to not participate.

Also regarding some statement about money being collected and such.. If those who feel this event is unorganized and unjust and wish to not part take, I'll be happy to refund your payment of the shirts.. Remember that $10 I collected for the shirts, you are saving more than that just on lodging at Fontana. and some by lunch and dinner. Its ridiculous that I have to defend myself.. This situation is very irritating to me and I will have to re-think about next year's event..

Everyone should be greatfull.

Don't put a second thought into this issue. This is why I hate people. If people weren't selfish or could simply take responsibility for their own actions, this wouldn't be and issue. The problem lies in the fact that no kind deed go's unpunished.
If anyone complains or makes trouble for Phil or any of the sponsors, I will make a personal effort to make sure you regret such an immoral action.
Does everyone realize that the US of A has more lawyers in it that all the other countries in the world combined? We are a victim of our own judicial system and if signing a piece of paper is too much resposibility for you, than screw you! And with regards to being a minor. Tough. Tell your POS "Helicopter" parents that you want to go. Call and ASK permission. They are the PARENT, you are the CHILD. You DON'T have the rights of an adult. Suck it up.
Any help you require on this issue. I'll be more than happy to assist you, Phil.

Thank you, again, for putting on such an enjoyable event. I can't wait untill tomorrow.

I leave work yesterday and their are like 2 post on this thing, I get back today and it's almost 5 pages long.

Phil, I liked some of your idea's for next year that you were telling me this past weekend. I think that would help alot to make sure you don't have to spend any of your own money, since you do put in so much time on this. I can only imagine how relieved you will actually feel Sunday afternoon if everything goes smoothly.

Im all for this waiver, to take the legal responsibility of any stupidity resulting in property damage, etc, off of Phil's back.

but im not so sure about where it says "..(MRCCAL), and its officers, ..., friends, volunteers,..." im sure Phil and most of the MRCCAL guys are good guys, but what is the definition of "friend" and "volunteer." Technically, anybody friends with MRCCAL can totally rip anybody's **** off this weekend and not be liable. and im sure there is going to be a lot of nice cars/parts/equipment there

but whatever, ill sign it, i realize you guys are not lawyers

No one can be trust any more.. And I understand your concern with MRCCAL guys whom all are volunteering their time at this event. I know them personally and have helped me organized this event for past 3 years. I don't think they will "Rip anybody's" stuff.

I just want everyone to be aware that you are responsible and liable for your own actions.
I and several others at this event will warn you of the danager and specific rules you must follow, if you break them, people need to take responsibility of their action.. I think thats the bottomline for this waiver.... its pretty common sense, but obviously some do not understand so I have to enforce it.

I know.. Poor me! My wife was PISSED last night because I was spending most of my time responding to this thread.. So, She's mad! I'm mad because I'm spending even MORE time stating something that is pretty common sense! And those here who don't quite appreciate my work I put in are pissed about the damn waiver and consent for minors..

Its no win situation for everyone! Makes me wonder if its worth putting this much effort for all this stress!

Like I said last night Phil, I appreciate everything you've done in the past and this year for this event but it's almost just worth saying "DGRR 2008, a bunch of us are going to drive a mountain so whatever...eat where you want, stay where you want, drive how you want, and don't call me about SQUAT because it ain't my event!"

You know what I'm saying, given the past 24hrs.

Sorry I got off on a tangent last night and took you away you from your evening, Phil. I look forward to seeing you all Friday. I'll be at the dam early on Saturday to help direct traffic... and the rest of the things that need to be done to get started.

Phil, I only felt insulted that you posted this mandatory waiver after you knew we were already here on Wednesday with a couple of underage people from our area.

Seemed to us like it was something you were doing to make it harder on us, since we chose to arrive before you did. Sorry the Raleigh group is coming today. Hopefully that won't ruffle too many feathers. You've done more than your fair share of the work this year and in previous years. I appreciate all that you have done. Hopefully my gratitude will satisfy your need to clearly announce your hard work this often. I know this weekend will be a blast! Things were clarified last night, and everything is understood now. See you soon!!

As friend who stated to me after reading this.. Those who question about signing a waiver I wonder what your true motive of attending this event. The waiver pretty much is stated to make sure people understand that I am not liable if something happens..

Stina, As of now, I have enough local guys who's willing to help me regarding parking.. I think you should just enjoy the event!

I just remembered something you said TUESDAY NIGHT on the phone regarding the event. You aren't going to allow ANYONE TO LEAVE before 2:30 PM! Hell NO I'm not signing a waiver that passes my rights to hold you responsible if you're not going to allow people to leave. No, sir. I hope nobody else signs this thing if you are still going to keep people from leaving. That's dangerous and irresponsible. I will be parking where our car can leave if necessary. You cannot keep people from having access to their cars and blocking them in. If we had an emergency and could not leave, YOU would be at fault.

I find it completely absurd that you negated to mention ANYTHING about a waiver at 9/10 EST Tuesday night when you asked me to help with parking and told me to tell everyone to leave. How interesting it was that you'd post info about the waiver after you found out we were coming up early. You were just HOPING that we wouldn't have internet access up here so you could surprise everyone with this absurd request.

Anyone else reading this needs to think about it before handing your life to Phil.

Phil, if you didn't want some help, then why ask? You only have your friends from down there helping you. You're not allowing anyone else to help who wanted to. You tell people one thing or another, depending on who they are. Now who's biased and prejudice? I hope you are happy with your event. You aren't doing this for the rotary community. You are doing this event so you can look good and others will give YOU the glory. No wonder you keep pushing everyone else away who wants to help.

Im glad this was worked out, however I just wanted to point out that the waiver has been signed every year that Deals Gap has been organized (I know because the waiver came from me). Typically in the past I dont think it was even posted or mentioned a head of time. People just signed it when they got to the Dam. The only reason that it was mentioned early this year is due to high turn out to help save time.

He has us help because he can just tell us what he needs done and we just help him do that. We arent trying to change things and give him ideas and opinions that just gives him more and more to think about and deal with. We just let him set things up the way he wants and we just support him with extra hands. Also we are all local and he sees us real often and its easy for him to heal with us. It has nothing to do with prejudice feelings or anything like that. Believe me, this is WAY to much crap for him to try and include is his life and does create a large strain on his life to not be making any money on it (which he doesnt). Most everyone that goes already knows Phil anyway so he doesnt really benifit anything from it....most of the people give him glory for so many other things he does to help people in the community with thier cars, ect.

Good Luck, Im sorry your car blew up

Thank you again for clarifying everything. I apologize for coming across so strongly. The event turned out awesome! I'm so proud of y'all. Thanks for all that each of you did to make things happen this year.

Stina

PS- No worries about the FB. We obviously didn't invest enough time into the FB to defeat the Dragon. Back to the drawing board...
