I had a great time. The only let down was my cars oil leak, and i can only blame myself for that. When the road was dry it was a ton of fun.
Only thing i would have liked was cell phone service, o well.

The one where you were in your MB FD on 8-40?
Yes. And it's not that fast but it will run with stock TII's due to it's power and weight.

Who was the non driving, forking dumbass in the MB FD that was "trying" to burn out at the gravel lot at the bottom of the dragon, but just smoked the clutch 3 times in a row. Not only was the car loud, but the back tires never turned over once during those 5 second "burnouts". Everybody looking on was either like or

I had a great time and will do it again ASAP. The wife and I would have had more fun if it wasn't for a coolant seal that kept spitting out fluid as if it was the following morning of Mardi Gras. We liked the place and road so much we are thinking of going down again with one of our other cars and groups just to run the Tail again. Thanks to Matt, Phil, Mike, Jake and others for all their help and assistence in my failed attept at a great time.

Thanks to all and look forward to a ton of pictures and videos.

What are you talking about? I thought Phil did a good job of making it clear that you can run in whatever group you want to: 1-8, group 1 being the fastest.

Exactly, everyone had the choice of driving with whatever group they wanted to. And I doubt they would have a problem switching groups if you wanted to go a little faster.

I'm not sure what Josh was trying to do but I will be glad to ask him. He did give one of the veteran bikers of the Dragon a run and afterwards the guy said and I quote "Every year I get someone who tries to run with me and that was one of the best runs for the money I've ever had." Yeah I agree we were all standing there thinking what the hell is he doing but calling someone a "non-driving, forking dumbass" is a little to the extreme.

Ya, he did do a good job letting everyone pick there own group. The funny thing is the look that people gave my car when I pulled out to run with that group. Strange, but they were the ones sitting on the side lines waiting for the slower groups.
It was all good. The fd and Z06 was a blast to be paired up with. That was the best run I had thru the gap and loved it!

I agree it turned out ok, all I'm saying is it would be easier if we were organized in groups before hand, but its hard to do with that many people. I'm also not blaming anyone, I was suppose to be a leader, and no one came to my group, and actually 2-3 other leaders group, so I just ran with the Leo, and had a blast keeping up with him, and watching Chad in my rearview with the FB. It was alot less work for me.

We actually said something about trying to organize it better at breakfast Sunday morning, or at least have groups before we got to the gravel pit, but Phil and all of us really couldn't come up with anything.

Nod, I'm sure he would be the first to mumble something about how it didn't work out right and hang his head and kick the dust.

We all kid him about how freaking loud his car is. Can allways tell when he is showing up somewhere.

I think this was a AWESOME event....I had a BLAST!!!!

Couple things everyone should know....the dam is obviously Federal property, the grass area you would have been parking on at the bottom of the Dam was very wet and muddy, I drove on it just to test it out. If you were there for lunch then you heard the FEDERAL OFFICER say anyone spinning thier tires in the grass areas would be heading to Federal jail. Phillip along with myself and John all thought the liability of very wet muddy grass and 100 cars has a HIGH probability of spinning tires and someone going to jail. In addition there were no tables or restrooms and no pavilion to get under if it started raining. We really didnt have much choice than to move it to the top at the last minute and that was a GREAT decision because had we been at the bottom we would have all been standing in the mud and rain and it would have been horrible.

We tried to take all possible precautions to make sure everyone knew. It was announced over the 2 ways (which most people had or knew someone that had one) MANY MANY MANY times. A note was left at the check in desk incase anyone came in asking they would know to tell people it was moves. We also sent someone down there to tell people to come up to the top. We werent going to make someone stay down there all day and miss everything...its not like anyone was getting paid. The volunteers bought a shirt just like everyone else.

Some people thought the actual deals gap drive seemed a little disorganized....I thought it was as organized as possible considering there is absolutly NO cell phone signal and 2 ways wont reach from one end of the gap to the other. There is NO way to communicate from one side to the other. If anyone has any idea then throw them out!!! Some people want to make one trip some people want to go back and forth for hours.....there is no way to really organize it. Its more of a, everyone meet here...break off into groups of similar driver....and go if you want to stop then stop, if you want to keep going more then keep going, ect, ect, ect.

Anyway, I think the event was a complete success and I had a wonderful time!!! I hope Phil decides to do it again next year because it will be even better. The organization was top notch and anyone that says otherwise will have to fight John!!! LMAO

Its ashame a few people dont seem to be very satisfied....but I suppose you cant make everyone happy. Last year people complained we stayed at the dam too long, this year people thought it wasnt long enough.....everyone has different opinions and agenda's but over all I think everyone had a great time. I think its an outstanding event. Its fun, you meet people, see cars, drive, and its CHEAP as far as these kind of events go. I think the whole weekend trip cost me about $250 total for food, gas, lodging, ect!!! It was awesome!!!

Cant wait for next year!!!
Stephen

Stephen, your correct. We can't make everyone happy so no sweat. I was fun and a good time just looking at all the different cars and seeing yours as well.

Chris, It's all good. When you have a group that bid it is hard to get everyone in groups anyhow when they are all blended in together.
I still like the huge fireball you spit out at me when we were gettin it thru the gap. What exhaust was that on your FD? Maybe I will have to do that to my TII so I can shoot flames! Ha ha. Really that was freaking sweet. My old 79sa with a huge streetport did that on command. I miss that car.

I had a blast at the event. Phil did a great job again for putting all together once again. Like SPautos said, it is hard to make everybody happy. However, overall it was success, even with the rain. I hope to attend again next year!

It was great driving with Chris and Chad, til next time!

LOL, it is just a straight exhaust with a Racing Beat Single tip. I just got my BNR Stage 3's about a week and half ago, and didn't have a chance to hook a WB O2 up to it so I just added about 5+% fuel up top, so it was probably running pretty rich.

Again I think it was a great event and couldn't ask for it to go any better. I was just adding my .02 on ways to improve. If you can't improve something, then there is something wrong, because nothing is perfect.

When I went to the bottom of the damn around 9am to set up it wasn't too bad and was drying out. In fact I took some great pics of my car while I sat there sending everyone to the top. With the rain that happened when I left there at noon to come up to the top it would have been a disaster. Tearing up the grass was one of the main points the TVA rep covered in the letter they sent to me giving us permission to use that area.

As far as making everyone happy it's hard to do. You either set an event up with a strict timeline/schedual/rules and money or you do what you can with the resources you have to try and give everyone a good time. Yeah with hindsight this and that, but even with the last min changes and the weather I thought it was a great meet. This is only our second attempt at this so give the guys involved a chance. Everyone's thoughts and suggestions, the good and the bad that happened, and whatever else gets thrown into the pot will be used to have a better one next year.

I had an AWESOME weekend.
After driving 550 miles, and fearing a possible wash-out Sat, I drove my rookie run Friday night. WOW! Way cool.
I couldn't get to sleep Fri night until the storm finally blew through.
Sat, I could hardly wait to get going.
Why not start a little sooner?
That gazebo prevented lunch from being a mess.
I liked the idea of the parade lap before the group runs.
Maybe next year, I can stay for Sunday.
I like the spring date for DGRR. Hooking up with the RX-8's in the fall is a good plan.

The radios were really helpful.
The FRS radios default to low power unless you select high power.
I don't know if everyone had selected the hi power option.

Maybe next year we can use the chanel 7 sub-channels 2-38 to isolate the groups.
Then the volunteers can monitor all of us on sub channel 0 & talk to each other on 1.
That way the rest of us on 2 & up won't clutter the channel.

Like I said, I had a blast and was really glad I got to meet some other 7 guys from Alabama. I hope I can meet up with you guys more than just once a year. And I was also glad I met you other guys...Richard, DJ, the guy from Savannah, Reese (I didn't know that was your name but I saw someone here say that you're the one that had the blue hair. I met you Sunday morning at the Texaco, I was in the red FD and was wearing a black ballcap and a black sweat shirt with white stripes down the arms....you were getting ready to go for a run thru the gap as a passenger in the red RX8, correct?) Anyway, I had lots of fun!

i was trying to reset the gtech that someone was letting me borrow, with my emergency brake halfway up, which i do admit was not the brightest idea. with that said i managed to do a 2.2 second 0-60ft time. LOL either way my car can do plenty of smokey burnouts considering it puts down about 420hp. oh and my clutch held just fine.

however, i don't appreciate being called a forking dumbass and think you would be a little slower to say that to my face, but we shouldn't turn this into a who's is longer thread.

now as to your first post i would think what you get out of sponsoring an event like this is name recognition and bolstered business. something that you quickly lose when you start throwing your "weight" around in your posts, and insulting atendees.

^^^Just to clear things up, he said MB FD... which I thought was Montego Blue FD in other terms?? I think he's referring to someone else?? Josh has a black FD.

Maybe MB means midnight black?? But I always thought it was montego blue??

haha if he wasnt talkin about josh he sure as helll just got chewed out by him

he does have a valid point by saying its probably not very good for business to say something negative about someone.

I had trouble starting off in that gravel, that was some loose **** and i apologize if i hit anyone with flying rocks..
