Everyone home safe??? Check in time!!!

Hey guys... just thought we should make sure everyone made it home alright. The last four cars of the Raleigh group made it home after midnight or so. We took the Skyway back and stopped for dinner with the SC guys.

I'm home and accounted for. Just checking on everyone else.

So the people in the burgundy s4 NA from NC, did they make it back okay? I think that car blew up, by the sound of it. They didnt seem too keen on the idea of receiving any help, so I just left them alone. I know I passed them going up a big hill on the way out of the dam, a hill that would have been damn near impossible to climb on a blown engine, but the guy insisted it was just a belt and that it was okay, so I went on.

They probably didnt know who I was, I had only been there a few minutes, like I said about the time I got there everyone was leaving. It might not have been, but it sounded like it blew apex seals on one rotor to me, it was definitely only running on one rotor trying to climb the hill out of the dam.

Anyway, have I ever heard of that seal? lol, I only build engines on a weekly basis, so yeah

It's called a front cover gasket. It's common to get leakage from that spot because there's a pressurized oil passage that feeds the OMP drive shaft feeding through that part of the gasket. If yours has blown out you can either live with it or you can pull the front cover and redo the gasket/seal. Usually on 86-88 motors people dont use gaskets because rebuild kits do not include the right gasket, they give you the 89+ gasket for some reason, so it is best to just use sealant on the 86-8 front cover unless you specifically order the 86-8 gasket.

I stopped also and asked him if he needed any help when we went past him and he said the same thing, tightning the belts and was OK. He was having some problems at the parking lot before the first run. I don't remember seeing him after that though.

Yeah the RRDI crew had a long day and night on the road, we should have taken video footage of the last hour or so. Thanks to Reese and the guys for cruising with us and doing dinner Sunday. Great to meet you guys, It was a blast.

After we split up on 40 in Cary I decided since I drove this far I would just drive clear across Wake county, and when I got there I figured I might as well just drive clear across the great state of North Carolina. I drove so far I came to the ocean, and when I got there I figured since I drove this far I might well turn around just drive to the other side. So that's what I did. And when I reached the other side I figured since I came all this way I might as well turn around and drive back to the other. So that's what I did, I drove.

You went to the beach?? No fair! *jealous!*

I was wondering where the heck you were going when we took 440. LOL

You were in your groove with your music again, weren't you?

I don't recall wanting to be home before dark... but we ended up going to dinner with the SC people in Asheville. The skyway was wonderful. The weather was great, and made the skyway a nice scenic detour.
