Man I hope I can end up going to this if I can get a car together to go. I have a question about hotels. About how much would the 3 night stay be. I looked at all the usual places on the intar web and they said they were booked up for some reason on those days.
Also is there a caravan I could hook up with that would be going through WV. If there are any going through WV

Last year, we got 20 to 25% off of their off season rate.
Most of the cabins, you could share with people, which will bring the cost down.
The time we picked is start of the season, so, not many people will be around. I'm surprised about availability. Fontana told me they had ton available.
Make a new thread regarding WV caravan to Deals Gap. Also, make a thread on the NE section of the forum. As time gets near, there will be more concrete plans about caravan.

Alright guys.. Any ideas on how to bring RX8 guys into this event??
I made a post on the RX8web.com and seems like no one is interested in coming to this event.
Maybe its because of last year lack of 7 owners participating in BOTD... I've heard 2-3 7 owners showed up?? Is this true?? Well, If any of you have good ideas about how to bring 8 owners to this event (DGRR 2006) I would greatly appreciated!
Is it anything to do with NEW vs OLD??

There were 3 RX-7 owners (including me) that went to BOTD.
I don't think it is a new vs old thing. I think it is more of an interests thing. I assume it is safe to say that most of us RX-7 owners are pure sports car enthusiasts. That is the reason why we bought an RX-7. What does an RX-7 owner do when he/she goes to Deals Gap? The answer should be obvious. But, when I went to BOTD last fall, a large portion of the RX-8 owners went horseback riding. It came accross to me that the event to them was more of a laid back, vacation thing than a driving event.

We should have at least 4 RX-8's coming from Raleigh for sure, could be a few more once word and details get going on our side. We have a lot of RX-8 guys who make up part of the rotary meet we hold twice a month here.

I better make it. I am having a hard time getting all the vac lines and emissions stuff hooked up and blocked off
I just rebuilt the engine. Its still out so I should not be having a hard time but the rotor god has decided to give me a hard time.

I definitely wanted to see some 8s up there.
By the way, If you get a BIG group pic made, how many of you might be interested in them??? I'm going to ask Killboy if he's interested in taking it and selling them for us. Most likely a combination shot from the top of the dam looking down and from the bottom toward the dam.
Also, start booking your lodging!

Anyhow,.. Did you say horseback riding?? Interesting.... So, is what we should do??
Was everyone ok with last year with having group leaders leading a small group of people up the Tail of Dragon?? Also a big gathering at by the water??
As of now, plan is pretty much the same as last year.. Except we will definitely have a car show w/ troopies and prize!

Yes, there was horseback riding. I think it was on the left on the road going towards the top of the dam, but I could be wrong. It just came accross as odd to me, because the only thing I was thinking of was tearing up and down one of the best roads in the world, and they thought of horseback riding. They could've been burnt out from the day before I guess. I only went for the Saturday event.
I thought the small group runs and meet at the bottom by the water worked out great.
If we get a big group shot, I will buy one. I bought an 8x10 from killboy of me and the FC at the BOTD event, and I love it.

Hey! Not all of us are bad. I must admit though, most 8 owners dont appreciate the car. I wave to other 8 owners when im riding down the road and very rarely do they care.
Yeah, the BOTD is more of a vacation/chill event than a pure driving event. The event is ~5 days and there is a bunch of stuff that goes on other than just driving. There was plenty of road raging though. The night drives were on point. I don't see any problem with bareback..... i mean horseback riding haha. Yes the horse thing is to the left on the way to the dam.
I'd be in for a big picture.

I own an rx8, I'll be their. O and yes most rx8 owners are dicks. I think the problem may be that most rx8 owners are on the older side. I'm only 21, dont worry, I wave at you guys to. The funny thing is that RX7's are the only one's that wave back.

As far as sponsors doing anything, I"m not putting on a presentation but I am supplying a couple of oil filter pedestals (FC only. Sorry FD guys!) to be given away as door prizes on Sunday.

OK..... Im going to just say it and hope for the best.... My first and last car was a Wrangler, My RX8 (6M) is my first sports car, and I have only had it for 3 months. I'm kinda scared but in a respectful way of deals gap. I have been hearing alot of horror stories about people new to sports car getting hurt. I know how to drive stick but i dont know how to drive stick with performance and speed in mind. Heal and toe, downshifting at high rpm's, left foot braking, clutch kick, that kind of stuff. I was hoping that a more experienced driver could give me some pointers at Gap or even ride along while I was running the Gap.

Just drive as fast as you feel comfortable, if you don't think you can go around a turn faster then by all means don't. Only having the car for 3months and it being the only sports car you ever had, it is going to take some time for you to get use to its limits. Try to be smooth with braking and shifting, if you can't heel toe very good don't worry just find a gear that is suitable, and downshift as little as possible, it takes practice, and trying to drive fast on a curvy road that you don't know and trying new stuff is probably not the best idea.
