Cherahola Skyway Drive - Friday Morning 2017 Edition

Edit: oops on the name - it's Cherohala.

Don't see a thread for this year's Friday morning Skyway Drive so thought I'd start one. The drive is one of my favorite parts of DGRR.

I copied the following from Jeremy's 2015 thread:

This is the updated thread for the skyway drive, all info will be posted here for this years drive. If you are planning on joining in please add your name to the list. We will be meeting at the Nantahala lodge parking lot at 9am and leaving soon after, so don't be late. We will be using two way radios so if u have one bring it. Lunch will be in Madisonville, there is a walmart there that will be the meeting place for leaving out, you can eat anywhere u want, I figure an hour is plenty for lunch then back to walmart to regroup.

Here is the route.

I will have a set of radios with me. They help but are not a necessity. There are usually around 25-30 cars that will participate and we all try to keep an eye out for each other.

Hey Phil. Thought we could swing the whole group by Addicted as part of the ride as we go right by the shop and that would be good exposure for Addicted. For those of you that don't know them, Addicted does great work and I can personally vouch for them. I don't know about being able to make it by 11 am but probably more like 1 pm, or right after lunch.

Thats for sure, last year was the worst because the had just tarred and graveled a lot
of the roads we were on. I picked crap out of my interior for a few months after that.
Even with the windows half up I still got a lot of mess coming in.

@t_g_farrell- before I did the 99 face lift, my 93 was riddled with chips from the guy in front of me. Last year with my 99 I stayed in the back and far enough off the guy in front of me so I wouldn't repeat the same mistake two years ago. Will be doing the same this year.

^Bro, it helps if you drive like you got a pair and up in the front with Dale and I
Nah but seriously it's was pretty bad, I don't remember previous years with so much road debris and such.

If anyone wants me to bring it, I have temp clear wrap for the front. It's like heavy duty plastic cooking wrap. Used it a while ago and it works well.

Just noticed the map doesn't work so thought I would post up this one:

The Dragon and Cherohala Skyway Plus

It's pretty much the route we will take, with the exception of the upper loop. For timing, we will take 441 into Madisonville for lunch. I'd like to swing by Addicted right after that and then, it's on to the Tail of the Dragon for the head back to the Fontana Dam for the group picture.

Will also take Mile 60 to Bald River Falls for a good photo op.

I may not be on this after all, our group is thinking about doing a smaller drive together this year.

If you haven't done this drive before, don't skip it. I've done it for 4 or 5 years now and its always great no
matter what the weather is.

As for sign up here, do you mean this thread? If so I am in. This is my first year for DGRR so I would like to participate in as many drives as possible.
