So Kevin got banned for a week huh?

One of the top engine builders, used part guys, and source of free information for everyone in this community- banned for not ponying up ad dollars.
This place has really just gone right down the drain. What a joke.

I read the multiple threads Kevin made and posted in and I found myself thinking about how a little money was going to make a valued, reputable member turn his back on the community. He's offered parts for free in the past and nobody cared, he's offered parts for cheap and nobody complained.
How much revenue is the club losing from Kevin offering whatever parts he happens to WANT to get rid of that week/month/weekend?
apparently money talks.

- No Dealers in the classified sections. A dealer is defined as anyone who is selling more than 2 of the same product, or who repeatedly has items for sale.
How many items do I have to sell at what frequency to be determined as "repeatedly has items for sale".
Heres my constructive criticism: Define that number and put it in that sentence.
No your over analyzing it. It would be easy to determine if you have been trying to get rid of parts for days/weeks months from a single car part out.
I would be an entirely different thing if you happen to have new cars to part every couple of months or maybe happen to post in one of your threads that you got a "shipment of new ones" to sell.
For example it would be odd for someone to happen to have 3 different exhausts for sale in perfect condition within a three month period right?
On the other hand if your selling a OEM exhaust along with a HKS exhaust it would be something different.

Wait, what if I can prove that I only break even on the products I list? Does that mean I have to pay advertising fee's even though I'm essentially operating as a non-profit? For instance, if someone was a shop that normally didn't list here, but wanted to empty inventory at cost + shipping, they would have to sign their soul over to essentially give away product because they list 2 or more?

Only ones paying are DEALERS, VENDORS and people trying to skirt around the advertising that they think they should get free because they have done so much for the community. Of course better Vendors, ones that do deserve our members money; play fair, and pay for the advertising and the right to sell. These shops like Pineapple or Atkins actually help the community as well as pay for their advertising here.
Kevin posted the guide on how to rebuild your own engine. He essentially shot himself in the foot providing the same advice that other builders (Atkins, Pineapple, etc) keep as trade secret or sell for a premium on DVD. He went out of his way to provide a free service to the community in the form of free advice that frankly you can't (couldn't) find on any other Rx7 forum. That is a major selling point on this forum.
Like I said earlier the signal to noise ratio of the tech sections is appalling. Folks like yourself, Aaron, Kevin and a select few others are the only thing that keeps the 2nd Gen section from ending up like the lounge.
Personally I feel that vendor privileges should be gratis to you, DKJ, Kevin, Aaron, and those who seek to better the board with their free advice and moderation efforts.

Well it was hypothetical, but I have sold things, at cost, on forums before just to help people out who needed stuff. It just seems absurd that you would have to pay fee's for something you don't really need IE advertising. It should be that there is a BENEFIT to paying for advertising, not that it is some mandated, protection money, and if you don't pay you disappear.

K&N drops money for random honda/truck/generic ads at the top of the forum and nobody cares if the ad blocks the search and/or other features. WHy? because they pay. Nothing else matters.

Noted, and I think that was sort of the point. This does allow the moderators some level of flexibility to properly determine if the user is abusing the policy or not. The rule is not enforced without some effort and background searching. I'll see what we can try to add.
Moderators pull up a search query of the threads the user has posted in the recent past and really use that as a clear indicator of who is a "seller" and who is just selling.
Example, people who just happen to be selling different turbo setup every month, or better than that.. they manage to sel the exact same turbo setup 3 or 4 times a year. Mind you this doesn't include anyone who might have PM'ed the seller directly.
Sure it's possible that the guy is swapping turbos on a monthly basis and getting new ones, but it's highly unlikely. As ridiculous as it seems, some of the people who have had threads removed are that blatant about it.

Vague/interpretable rules are good for general but in this instance where you are requiring money from a forum user I think you need to try to be as clear as possible. And if anything you can always use the tag line, "Decisions are solely dependent on the decision of the moderator/admin and may include criteria not included above." Just so long as it isn't called in for malicious reasons I can't see any but the most drama-whoring people having a problem.

basically: here is this free forum for you all to network and do what you want. Oh wait, you're making money? I want my cut for you using my free website.
Does that seem right to you?
Like it was said before, make the rules clear as day and enforce them. At one point I asked whether or not selling random parts i've collected would force me to pay so I've been putting them up on other forums to avoid dealing with this crap.
Hope Kevin isn't as offended as I'd be about his ban because the amount of money IB would have made is nothing compared to the technical advice, knowledge and cost-saving opportunities that we, as members, would have received or could receive in the future.
At one point this forum was about the community. Not anymore.

yeah, I was irritated when I was banned but I don't really contribute much to the club. I was furious when I heard Kevin was banned for not paying and "defying" the "rules." Goes to show what's valued more on this club. I wish Boosted7 hadn't sold out.
I read the multiple threads Kevin made and posted in and I found myself thinking about how a little money was going to make a valued, reputable member turn his back on the community. He's offered parts for free in the past and nobody cared, he's offered parts for cheap and nobody complained.

Kevin has hooked up parts for both me and my father for extremely cheap, basically just his time to locate them. He's a good guy. A dick, but that's half the reason I think he's a good guy. Not being afraid to call someone out is a rare quality around here.

I sell $600-700 Month (GROSS) on eBay and my website. Thats before EBAY FEES/ PAYPAL FEES/ POSTAGE/ Ink Cartridges ($45 every 2 months), and paying for the actual inventory. I laid this all out to the IB Rep (Kim is her name [Only took 40+ days for her to get in contact with me after my initial request}
She replied back with a special vendor status rate of just under $200/month
Thats what I call being "tuned in" to E-Commerce.

Let me guess Banzai... Some months you wouldn't clear the "fee's" associated with posting here..
Alternate tactics will come into play.. People will start 2nd screen names, and sell parts 1 at a time...

it's sad to know that this is what it comes down to when you want to help others help you. Big corporations don't give a rat's *** about the rotary community, we're just possible sales.
I've said this to many forum member whose parts I've bought: "I'd rather give YOU the money for this used part than give it to a big company. Let me help YOU help ME."
"let me help you" has changed to"let me charge you or you're out of here."

Banned. I got OWNED!!!
There's a lot more people looking to buy than to sell. You'd think the site admins would go out of their way to ENCOURAGE people to sell.
Nope, they're trying to extort $200/month from people who part out cars in their spare time. It's just ridiculous.

Is it against forum rules to ask if having www.mazdamark.com in your signature is a violation of forum rules?
