Hi there RX7 buddies. I became a member in 2014 with my son, and we read, and read and read on this site to become knowledgeable about the RX7's from 1993 through 1995 sold in the U.S. I did not keep track of our access or limited access to all of the pages on this site. We purchased a 1993 RX7 from the original owner, off an ad on Craigslist, in Pittsburgh, PA. Partially due to the information we gleamed from this site, we knew the questions to ask when we inquired about the condition of the car. It turned out to be a fantastic original condition car, and fortunately we were able to close the deal. Now I am in the market for an RX7 for myself. Imagine my disappointment when I attempted to look at the Member's Marketplace and was STOPPED. This website would be so much more user friendly IF ONLY you (Administrator) allowed enthusiasts like myself, that own an RX7, to access any and every page on the RX7 Club.Com website. In my humble opinion, the 10 reply rule is unnecessary and segregates against those of us that do not like to type, type, type on our computers with complete strangers, just to hear ourselves talk. Sometimes silence is golden. I want access to the Member's Marketplace every time I "click on" this website. As I said earlier, I joined in 2014 - how long are you going to segregate me from ALL of the features on this Club website? Respectfully, John J. Garvey of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma U.S.A.

 

Well John , You are at 5 posts now, you can still get a few more posts by hammering around the new member section, to get to 10 if you want to post ads.
This forum has been around a long time, and I know I found most information by searching ,and didn't post very much , but I have a good running rotary that I wouldn't have without this forum.
There are also Facebook groups, but they are unmoderated and not as useful to me.

 

all the reading u did but missed out on reading the forum guidelines. all sections r clearly marked. the intro is simply that, for intros. there's a classifieds section for wanting to buy parts/cars, tech section for questions concerning technical issues. u need a min number of 10 "legitimate posts" to gain access to the classifieds. again, the guidelines will help u understand how the forum works. any posts not relevant to that particular section will get deleted.

 

Once you get by the the Clear cut Case of USER ERROR on your part on how the Policies and rules of this Rx7 Club are implemented I am sure that you will see that there is no Target being placed on your back as to what you can and cannot do on this Forum.
Your "way of doing things or other sites allow this to be done" has NOTHING to do with the way that this Forum implements its operational base..Different Town different Mayor my friend.
You decided to Voluntarily use the Forum and can either contribute to the content of its date base..or then again your choice to NOT to do so.But do not try to change the Carpeting that you just started to walk on.

 

As a longtime member I support the 10 post rule. It is not hard to make 10 posts in the new member section.

 

To the OP, one of the reasons for the 10 post count was because we would get bad actors that would create an account and then message users or respond to classified ads trying to scam people. It has helped.

 

I'm with John on this one. For the past 2 and a half years I've used this site, only for a few months have i been a member. For those 2 1/2 years it has proven incredible helpful. Is the 10 post mark hard to hit, no. Is it necessary? I've browsed threads not once posting because everyone here has answered about every question there is. There's no point in posting meaningless threads to hit the 10 post marker (Literally what I'm doing RIGHT NOW) just to look at the classifieds. Will i post questions once in a blue moon. Probably, yes. Could they just as easily made it so you had to be a member to look at classifieds? You bet.

 

The security measures here are a double edged sword. I remember scrambling to get enough posts in so I could pm a guy with some plastics I really wanted. Pita, but I figured It's a good anti scam measure.

Later on I posted a rear bumper wanted ad. I got a pm reply from a polished, perfect English fluent individual who knew all the fd terms. I assumed he was established and PayPal ed him the money. I immediately thought "that was stupid"... I searched his user name and found that his response to my ad was his first post ever.

Turns out the security settings were disabled, allowing anyone to pm members. My faith in the system cost me hundreds.

​​​​​​The rules help as long as the system settings are as intended. But always do your research before sending some potential scammer your hard earned cash!

 

Most people who end up scammed do so because they send as "Friends and Family" payment. Never do that. Send as payment, and add 3.5% to the price if seller does not want to cover fees (even tho he is required to by paypal).
And comment with transaction details describing what you are paying for.

 

As new member here; I completely understand why you wouldn't want some bad actors from messaging or responding to classifieds. This is good and has to stay, and this is also how most car forums operate. 10 post is not a lot and most people shouldn't have a problem with it.
That said, what is the harm in letting people JUST view the classifieds without having the permission to reply back? I understand the mods have valid reason, but in my experience not letting people simply view the marketplace without posting is very rare in other car forums, and this is most likely why there has been a lot of threads lately about this matter.
Only a few months ago I remember not being able to reply to the classifieds with my low post count ( which is fine), and yet simply view it when I logged out. I could be wrong, but it appears that most people complaining about the marketplace here are only trying to view it?

 

I feel the 10 post limit for gaining access to post outside the new members section is perfect. It gets new comers to read each other's threads and prevents spammers from flooding old posts with random links.

I'm on the fence about read access to the for sale section. It might help people sell their cars faster if a wider audience can see their posting. However, it may cause unwanted requests from people that aren't committed to purchasing their stuff. This is a community, not Craigslist.

And come on man... Five to ten posts isn't that hard to do. Beside this is called a forum for a reason. Maybe you should consider contributing to the community rather than just using it for selfish reasons. Because if we all thought like you this forum would be useless.

First off, welcome to the RX-7 community. Sounds like you have done your research regarding what you wanted, and now you are in the process on improving what you and your son own. I can certainly understand the frustration with the post limitations, but it was not done to segregate anyone. As many have mentioned, the post limit was done to limit spammers (those that join just to try and sell/scam members). Post limit to enter the classifieds used to be ten posts...it is now only five posts. Given your current post count, it looks like you are now eligible to post/buy in the classifieds.

How does a person contribute when everything has been covered or when members say " read the FAQS" or "google it".

 

I think it is a fair question regardless of being a "read in" member or not. After all this is the section to raise website related questions or issues and apparently rules change. Saying that the rule is the rule and its not that big of deal doesn't answer the question or address the issue. If anything this thread has shown that many of us don't know all the rules and/or why those rules are in place. Nothing wrong with educating the populous. I think we all want a scam free environment and whatever the number of posts it takes to make it so (5, 10, 25) then so be it. As far as segregation goes I'd have to disagree. The fact this rule applies to all members is a means to validate not segregate. It may be somewhat inconvenient but in the end its worth it to the administrators and users of the forum. Like Charlie said welcome to the forum John and depending on who is correct you may already have the access you desire.

This seems to be a step implemented by more and more forums these days. Ten posts is not to bad and doesn't take long to chalk up. Over on LegacyGT they are really tight with their classified section.
If it keeps the number of Nigerian Prince schemes down then I am all for it.

I do however think that there should be more access for the new guys then just the new member section. Seems there is a wealth of information on the this board.

I agree with mentioned party that you should at least view the marketplace. I understand that you're protecting the seller but in reality you are hurting the seller by limiting potential buyers. But rules are rules.

 

This website first and foremost is about the community and sharing knowledge, any buying/selling/trading is secondary. Frankly anyone who can't come up with 10 substantive posts to contribute here belongs on a Dodge Dart or Pontiac Aztek forum IMO anyway

 

As a new member, I understand why the rules are in place. I was a member under another sn a long time ago when I had my FC. Unfortunately, I can't remember any of my credentials to save my life. So a new sn was needed. I'm now looking to get back into the rotary platform again, but this time in a FD. I still have a few parts im trying to clear to go towards the new project. Hopefully I can get into one soon.

 

OP, I can understand the frustration of being used to to something, feeling like you've put in your time as a member so to speak, and now have to return to the newb post grinding to get back something you already had access too. However, I think there's three things to remember here:

1) The mods have done their best to implement new rules that effect a minimum amount of older members.

 

I understand where the OP is coming from. I'm in a similar boat, researching and reading for a couple years, not posting or ridiculing. My other, main, forum has no such requirement. But, 10 posts aren't hard to come by. Just gotta read a reply. Maybe it'll even help bring a few folks out of their shell and become quality contributing members. Good luck with your FD!
