Question Search prompt?

With our cars being 15+ years old, I think it is fair that most things have been done to this car. With that being the case, it is frustrating (at least to me) to see so many threads by newbs that could have been easily solved if the OP would have done a simple search.

Is there any way for the system to ask the OP if he/she has utilized the search function prior to allowing the post to hit the board?

I know this is a lot to ask, but DAMN these newbs drive me crazy sometimes.

thanks

In theory this sounds like a decent idea, however if we imposed a feature like that it would probably apply to all users, not just the newbs.

I have found that lot of users do try to search, but fail to use the proper search criteria, so even if they do try to search they might not know exactly what to search for.

In practice, I try to link them to the proper thread if I know there is one out there which increases the seach matrix for everyone in the long run.

Doc,

I understand that that particular feature (if added) would apply to all vice just the newbs. I am going to have to respectfully disagree with the comment that MOST search prior to posting. In my experience, there are a lot of FD owners that definitely do NOT search prior to posting. Mahjik is a very gracious mod and often will link them to a relevant thread; however, I know for a fact, many are just too lazy to search. They "expect" the forum to answer their beckon call.

I have no problem helping people; however, I feel that they should at least attempt to help themselves first.

Ok, off of my soap box

Yeah, FD owners are like that.

J/K

I'll leave this open for responses and see where it leads. Maybe it's something we can do in the technical sections only? "
