Thats because more effort needs to be taken in educating new members and existing ones alike. I do a lot of closing of threads in the 1st gen section and point to an existing thread link and ask the OP to please post up their question(s) in an existing thread if the one that I provided them does not have the answer.
I really think this is half the battle here. If someone doesn't know what terms to search for, they aren't going to find what they need.

No, I read it and I laughed. Just because a moderator of the forum does not post very often does not mean they are not doing things behind the scenes. You don't see all of the soft deleted and moved threads.
I don't participate in tech sections very often because I know HOW to use the search function's of the forum very well. And I don't like going into the tech sections because of some of the members of the forum trolling around looking for newbies to bash because they don't search.
Everybody was a newbie, I don't care who you are. But it's a car forum geared towards a specific engine/car. There's going to be alot of stumped people out there.

Better yet, take the time to answer or at least post a link to a good thread on the same subject. (I don't mean the really stupid questions)
I find it problematic sometimes searching, finding 30 threads on the subject queried, and only 2 of which being informative. Its kind of redundant to search through threads where everyones telling you to search.

MAYBE there should be a rule (which would mean people would have to read the rules to know, killing two birds with one stone?) that requires in the title of a thread some sort of notification that the poster has already searched--could be as simple as "SEARCHED: blahblahblah?"-- that way we all know the person is truly lost and not just a lazy bastard. Just a thought.

Yes, I've been VERY interested in this site and find it very useful and a wealth of information. I also find it difficulty to learn where stuff is and have to wade through many highly specific questions to get to the general info that will guide me to what I specifically need to know. In another post in this section I thought a section for noobs would be appropriate. How about this suggestion:
New users would be confined to a new users section and only have access to direct links into the technical section for may the first few days or a week. There could be stickies about how to use the site, sections for general definitions and and how to find events, and noobies could get oriented to what goes on here, and get drawn into the sites they would be interested in, without having to sift through what they are not, or wouldn't understand.
Hopefully the time there would keep spammers and flamers away, it would be easier to moderate, and people who want to be drawn into the rotary whirlpool will be irreversibly seized. Since I am in the category of new users and have some experience in moderating, I would be willing to help with that if the powers that be smile on the idea

I just feel like a ton of good threads have been lost amongst the ranks of newer, less detailed, less awesome threads. Another issue I have is that when I go to the archives section, there are no more pictures =(
Half of the threads in the archive section are useless without the pictures to reference what they are talking about.
Like... if we could some how consolidate everything that has ever been discussed about steam cleaning/ sea foram / atf trick etc... that would have saved me three days of searching and reading through 1st gen, 2nd gen and 3rd gen sections. Out of 25 threads, I would find maybe 2 or 3 with good details / data to reference.
There used to be a great thread on the forum that detailed how to do the "sleepy eye" conversion with projector lenses. Not the white FD, it was some amazing blue FD --- I always wanted to do this conversion but never got around to it years ago. Now that I have a new FD, I found spare headlight housings and I was planning on doing this conversion for my self... I found the threads, but there are no pictures!!!

Unfortunately we do not have total control over the visual content of the threads. Many of the images are hyper-linked to various personal websites or image hosting services.
We can only remove the thread or remove the dead links (even though we may not have anything to replace them with). Feel free to notify a moderator if a specific thread needs some attention as they are typically looking for new issues, rather than checking through archives and looking at old threads.

Are some of you so high and mighty that you dont remember when you knew little?
Give people a break, the car is a dying breed, people come and go and those that stick it out with these cars are the only ones keeping them out of the junkyard. Lets be helpfull to those in need, if you dont like what your reading then hit the back arrow and move on to a forum full of know it alls, such fun that would be- what would you talk about if no one new came up and sparked interest?
The "use the search" are the best- if its a simple answer just answer the question- or better yet search for a second and point someone in the right direction instead of coming back with stupid remarks- save that for the lounge

This may be the wrong place to say so, but I think the RX7 has a chance to be something akin to the MG. My theory is that when people have the time and money to buy a hobby car, they buy a car of their childhood that caught their fancy. That is what the 7 is to me and I think it is mechanically interesting enough to be a collectors car for quite some time. But the people will be coming into the 'classic' nature of it over the next ten to twenty years. In the eightys when MG went away, very few shed a tear, but now the A's and B's are more popular than ever. And those cars were mechanically quirky and unreliable. The RX 7 is an understated but classy car.
I feel that the people who are coming in and buying them for sentimental and nostalgic reasons need a place to come, orient themselves, and (as the MG'ers say) maintain the breed. I think this site can be a part of the car moving from 'an old used car' to a collectible classic. We should maintain our standards, but adapt to the changing clientel.

I personally don't read the 3rd gen tech section much at all now, nor do I spend nearly as much time on this forum as I once did. Mostly due to the crap you speak of, idiots filling the pages with stupid questions and the way the whole forum has changed since IB bought this place.
I can say that I hope in another 20 years, the valuable tech info on this board will be saved by someone and not lost. Hell, that's probably what we need to be paying for.
In the end, this is a public forum and it will reflect its general member base and those who rule.
As a general note, I normally forget what threads I've posted in so don't expect a response without some prodding

IB "purchasing" the forum has very little to do with anything around here. That's just poor scapegoating.
We are still managed and run by volunteer staff. They (IB) have very little influence over the day to day operations. FWIW - I haven't heard a single IB directive in months.
So now that we've taken opinion and replaced it with fact lets continue.
I do agree that in the end the members are what solely drive the content here. So the old "garbage in... garbage out" adage applies here.
In the end accountability lies with each and every user of this forum.
PS - With regard to the staff if you have any useful suggestions please feel free to add them, or send them to an admin directly... however jumping on the bashing bandwagon isn't very helpful if you don't have solutions to provide.
