To Rx7club.com... Will you please begin charging for memberships?

After reading what was asked in a recent thread I came across, I feel that this forum really needs to be protected...

https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/thinking-about-buying-rx-7-a-766495/

In all honesty --- I would be more than happy to pay $10 - $15 annually to maintain my Rx7club.com membership.

My reasons for this, is that it would eliminate the trash that is all over this forum. Something happened in the last 2-3 years my of absence from the rotary world, but now that I own another FD and I have become a regular to this forum; I have realized how much crap is all over the place... Crap being, useless posts (like the link I have above), scammers ripping people off, just trash trash trash!!!

I know that any serious Rx7 enthusiast, and any rx7club.com veteran would be more than happy to pay a small fee to get this forum back under control...

Just because the Rx-7 is becoming more affordable, which is subsequently allowing a new class of top notch idiots to jump aboard, does not mean that this thread has to succumb to that level...

Please, start charging for a membership --- it will do so much good!!!

And to make paying a membership fee more attractive to individuals --- figure out a way to integrate the membership fees into some group buy discounts / car meets / track days / free t-shirts --- u name it --- this forum is fantastic, but it is getting dumbed down =(

Charging would be detrimental to the tech sections.

Bad idea.

If a person was sincerely ignorant to the rotary world of RX-7s and asked that, why would you NOT want to help the person?

What ever happened to "I'm confused, curious, ignorant and I want to post this to find out answers"?

The second someone tries to charge me for this. . . I'm out.

The obvious answer is to have an adequate staff to filter crap like that out of technical sections. I think 2nd gen tech has that issue covered pretty well.

I'd pay $10 a year for a membership card, a window cling, and some special crap.

The problem is, Dave and Kyle(from the third gen tech section) are far too nice to go about cleaning this crap up.

There are currently dgeesaman, rxrotary2_7, Mahjik, rynberg, howard coleman all mods in the section.

Are you saying that there still is not enough enforcement, and there needs to be more moderation???

Can you give examples in the form of links???

Or do you mean that occasionally a spam ad gets to sit for 24 hours???

Rich, I added you to the 3rd gen specific mod team. Thanks for volunteering.

dgeeseman does what he can, but he misses a lot.
Mahjik is semi-retired and isn't really an active mod(atleast that's the last I heard)
Rynberg hasn't been around too much that I've seen.
I've never seen Howard Coleman moderate anything publicly, I didn't even realize he was a mod of that section.
And I've never heard of rxrotary2_7...no clue who that is.

There is another solution:

Instead of flooding the noob posts with "OMG SEARCH DUMBASS," just snicker to yourself and ignore it.

If they're smart they'll figure out their own questions by themselves without the assistance of 50 *** holes yelling at them to search. And, as the above mods have noted, all pointless threads are taken care of in a timely fashion.

Also, when I was talking to him recently, asking him to delete a thread(about breaking in to FDs), he reaffirmed that he wasn't really an active mod anymore.

LOL. I like how members think that somebody is not an active moderator of the forum's when they don't see them post. That's real cute.

Anyhow, this is a forum, as we all know. There are going to be certain types of members here. Elitist ******, noobies, moron's, lounge rats, trolls, etc. We can only lead people to use the forum's tools. We can't make them use it.

So, in other words, when a noob question comes up, be helpful to the person. All you have to do is be kind and say "Search through the FAQ's, your answer is there." Is that really hard to do?

It takes time. Honestly, 7club was my first forum. A lot of the people that do post aren't computer geniuses.

Obviously you didn't read my last post.

I used to think that when I was a newb, too. Once you start to participate in parts of the forum other than the lounge, you really do get frustrated trying to answer the same question 3-4 times a day. Maybe you'll be able to participate in a tech section one day...

Better yet, take the time to answer or at least post a link to a good thread on the same subject. (I don't mean the really stupid questions)

I find it problematic sometimes searching, finding 30 threads on the subject queried, and only 2 of which being informative. Its kind of redundant to search through threads where everyones telling you to search.

Thats because more effort needs to be taken in educating new members and existing ones alike. I do a lot of closing of threads in the 1st gen section and point to an existing thread link and ask the OP to please post up their question(s) in an existing thread if the one that I provided them does not have the answer. Also they need to learn what search words will help them find their answers.
