This was due to the fact that individuals in the past have abused the function.

We do this for the protection of our members, so words can't be taken back/mysteriously disappear.

Was any alternative action besides only allowing editing for 30 minutes after a post is made, considered to combat the abuse of the editing function by various "individuals"?

For example, were these individuals able to be identified and then banned or at least suspended?

I assumed that to be the reason. Is it possible to test the edit back in certain areas? such as; for sale (to update and such, and Meeting/event threads. These are areas that constantly have change. To edit would allow people to find the info faster and move on or log off and not slow things down.

I don't know the programming side of this.

But I will say that I do not recommend what you're suggesting.

Members post about their problems in the regular sections.
And post prices in the Classifieds sections.

If either one side has the capability to edit, you can do stuff like change the selling price to back out of a deal or hide info like blown engine, turbo issues, accidents, etc.

Not really a straight-forward answer.

I second Dom. The ability the edit post/threads after the fact would create issues with the honestly of posts in the Classifieds, and especially the GG/BG forum.

Of course those can be issues. I've seen it on other boards too. However, I think it can work in some areas. The for sale forum is closely monitored. As much as I would like to trust people on there, I know this site is the target of many fraud artist's. Perhaps making it a perk to people who have been on for a certain time and are in good standing. There are many ways to provide it.

or supporting members... i second this... very good argument...

Appreciate the support guys... I just know that it is frustrating to me when I can not post another item forsale or lower its price in the first post. Instead I have to either create another thread or add it to the 4th or 5th page of my current thread.

You can always PM the section mod or a supermod to edit the thread in any way shape or form you need. That's what we are here for to help you guys out.

Why is it that many other forums allow you to edit stuff hours or days later? Why are we any different?

It's not like this "rule" is preventing scams or loss of money, or even shitty dealings. They all still happen in abundance.

Seriously...go take a look at this thread for example, and then think of how much easier it would be for me to conduct simple part sales if I could edit the original post (which is the ONLY THING THAT MOST POSTERS READ, AS PROVEN HERE) to reflect current information.

What...you think I am going to PM a mod and wait 1-2 days for a possible response every time I sell a part off the list? That isn't going to fly with you or me. Not to mention most mods are not as nice or receptive as you are, half of them never even reply to messages sent.

currently the thread starter has no abilities to edit his thread other than to actually close it, and that applies to the classifieds only.

I agree with Resurrection, I was a mod on another forum that was much smaller than this one and even then I was trying to be helpful and attentive and it still took me usually 24 hours minimum, with an average of 36 hours, to completely solve the problem or perform the requested activities to their liking... and people get fucked every day in the classifieds... some people are just scumfucks, and not allowing them to edit their posts really isn't going to solve the problem... they will just lie in the first post!

On another note I am really OCD about punctuation, spacing, and formatting, so it ticks me off when I see a post of mine with something misspelled, punctuated wrong, etc. that I can't do anything about...

edit posts after a while

sometimes i dont notice a mistake on a post i did for a while, but when i go back to change it the "edit" tab is gone. i cant edit anything after what it seems to be 5-10 minutes later. i would like to keeps the "edit" tab on there all the time. unless there is a reason for it like that....

You can only edit within the first 15 minutes of the post. After that your words are stuck there unless you contact a moderator
