Where'd my edit button go?

Is it me, or did the edit button dissapear?

That has great idea written all over it.

EDIT: So now it's here. WTF? Is there now a time limit on edits?

There has always been a time limit on edits: 30 minutes.

christaylor 09-20-05 02:06 PM

No shit? I could've sworn I've edited posts days after...

Damon...I got a question about this. Sometimes when you edit, it's done, and that's that. Other times, it has the "this post has been edited by" line, and I am 100% sure that the time varies greatly. Sometimes that's happened within the first 30 seconds of the post (ie I edited the post and saved the changes within the first 30 seconds of the original post), and other times it hasn't come up down to the wire (30 min later).

I'm guessing that it's based on whether anyone else has read that post/visited that page between the original post and the editing? If no one's seen it, it won't say it's been edited, but if someone has, it will show the message, even within seconds of the original post? Am I right?

I'm not sure. I've never paid attention to that.

a way to edit our own titles after 30 mins.

we can edit the bodys of threads and the actual thread titles? when ever, so for tech, we could change it if the problem is fixed or if we misspell it. and in the for sale section, we can post sold once it is.
seems easy enough to change. just let us do so in more than 30 mins

Tranquil 08-21-06 06:49 PM

Edit button forever?

Is it possible that we could end the 30 minute cap on the edit button? I see it as kinda useless, I think there should always be an edit button.

Suggestion!

rx7roller02 09-04-06 04:45 PM

bad idea--particularly in the for sale sections. A post becomes public record, and if a scammer could edit whenever he wanted, he could keep changing his original post and the scams could be covered up that way. I say keep it like it is, for just that reason

PerkyStina 09-04-06 04:54 PM

I agree. Mods are always willing to correct posts whenever the person needs it done. That way, as stated above, situations like a seller trying to rip people off won't be as easy.

rajahFD 09-04-06 09:43 PM

not all sections HAVE to have the edit button to self moderate your post. within the admin pannel, there are functions that allow WHICH parts of the forum you can edit your posts on. so you can have all sections with the edit button, but not the for-sale sections or whichever other sections..

i like the "forever edit" button idea.

that is too much to go through just for a single edit though and i'm sure it bugs the hell out of mods to have to go and do that, even just because someone misspelled a word or forgot to add a picture, you know?

Tranquil 09-10-06 09:54 PM

Bump, I think we're generating some damn good ideas here.

Admins? Like the idea of forever edit for certain forums?

KeloidJonesJr. 09-10-06 10:00 PM

No, they want total and forever humiliation.

Merciless 09-14-06 12:52 PM

we would like to retain that info incase we have to BAN someone, we need prof you know ;)

but that wasnt 100% the case though

Edit My Own Posts: No Time Limit!

Hi,

Like the title says, I really think you should make it possible to edit each person's own post w/out there being a time restriction. In almost every other forum I've visited this is the case.

I think this would be MOST beneficial for the F/S section of this forum. I HATE having to create new threads constantly because they get so cluttered and most people don't want to read through the posts to see the updates and exactly what's still available and what's sold. It would make things MUCH MUCH simpler if everyone was able to update their original F/S post. Less hassle, and less multiple threads.

Maybe, there's something that could be done about this?

Thanks,

Rizwan

dbragg 11-05-06 03:15 PM

i dont agree with this. im currently in a battle with a mamber for money back on a product. everything he has posted in the thread is good solid evidence to get me what is due. if he could edit it at any time he could elimate statements he has made and make my case harder.

str8ryd 11-07-06 07:10 PM

Ahh, I didn't consider that. You're definitely right. I would much rather posts stay as-is IF I ever needed evidence in a case similar to yours. I guess the benefits don't outweigh the negatives in this case.

I wonder how this works out for other forums then??? I know for a fact that a few other forums allow users to edit their post, much like the privilege that is granted to mods/admins/sponsors.

Also wondering how a scamming situation would workout for sponsors??? If they tried to duck-and-run and since they have access to all their posts, wouldn't this create a LOT of opportunity for trouble?? Just wonderin'........

Carzy Driver 11-08-06 10:38 PM

being able to edit your posts anytime you like, sounds like a scammer's dream come true...

sintri 11-09-06 12:01 AM

least add it to that gigantic pile of posts you'd like to call a thread in the 2nd Gen forum so we can at least index that thing, cause I'm pretty sure alot of us would agree it's useless as it is.

Post editing

I would really like to be able to edit my own post that way I can update my forsale threads with out re-posting a new thread or having the update in the second page of posts..... it aggrivates me because I am so used to it with other sites. I really believe it would help relieve clutter from the forsale forums.

Moejoe 07-17-07 05:26 PM

I second this.

It is very difficult to follow some threads; like for sale and meets and events, because you have to scroll through the entire thread and read everything. Which no one does. They just end up cluttering a thread with their question that was answered (ex) in the thread update on the bottom of page 6. I can't tell you how many PM's I got on the address of a recent meet that I worked with. The ability to edit and update would cut down on PM's too. Please consider this. Thanks.

Good post mazdaenthused.

mazdaenthused 07-20-07 04:27 PM

thank you for supporting.... its just makes life easier... and makes browsing quicker ....

PS: ... RX7club by far has the highest amount of traffic out of all the other Rotary forums... Post editing would just relieve some pressure

samtgf 07-31-07 06:29 AM

I too would LOVE to be able to edit my own replies and threads once I start making some more. Honestly, why dooesn't this forum have an edit function for posts?

Its weird but I have just realised I can edit this post in the Suggestions section but why cant I edit the following post I made earlier today?

This function is not allowed after 30 minutes.
This was due to the fact that individuals in the past have abused the function.

We do this for the protection of our members, so words can't be taken back/mysteriously disappear.
