Forums, who really " owns " them ?

I,ve been looking through all the posts regarding the Banning of Kevin @ Rotary ressurrection from RX7club and , as a result , the effects and perceptions of other members over the implications this action has had.

I suppose the reality of the situation is -

1. Who owns RX7Club and what power/ rights do they have .

2. If the owner/s decide to ban someone then on what basis legally , logically and morally are they taking this action.

3. What rights do those who contibute to this forum have over those who simply use it and at what level of contribution is there grounds for reasonable argument when rules are either bent of broken.

4. Who really actually OWNS a forum when in many ways its really those that contribute to it ( more-so those who heavily contribute ) and constantly update and offer advice on what it is we are all passionate about , RX7's.

From the outset it would appear that its quite a simple setup.

An induvidual has an idea, that idea being the creation of a vessell ( in this case an online virtual one ) in the form of a forum which allows a widespread group of people from all corners of the world spanning all cultures to communicate and share their varied expieriences and offer advice on the intimate workings of RX7's.

So the vessell is setup, but what do you need to ensure the goal of information flow is achieved? people ( as with any business) .
And as with any business it is only as strong as the people who contribute to it.

So in conclusion tas o who owns a forum , I believe we all own it in some way as it needs all of us to contribute for it to even exist before it can become successful.

DEGREES OF CONTRIBUTION vs RULE BREAKING
The simplest case of banning someone for breaking forum rules would be somewhere in the realm of a Noob coming into RX7club who offers nothing, shows disregard and derigitroy ( and sometimes threatening ) behaviour towards fellow forum members and heeds absolultey no warnings form the Moderators what-so-ever, in this case you have a high degree of rule breaking vs a low degree of constructive contribution, therefore its a no-brainer ( as I'm sure you will agree) .

But at the other end of the scale you have those who have contributed heavily in a positive and constructive manner with respect and regard for others in doing so.
It is these memebers that others( who are not so well informed) generally form a trusting bond with as their contributions help us familiarise ourselves with our cars. This essentially is adzactly what the forum aims to do and what the original vision and goal of those who came up with the idea of the forum is.
The contributions of those who have the " know-how" enrich those of us who do not and therefore make the forum successful.

So the question now is -
Where did Kevin from Rotary Resurrection sit in the Rule Breaking vs Contributing factor.
I will be honest, I have not seen much of his work of contributing to this website but in the uproar since his banning I can only assume the general consensus is that he contributed heavily to RX7club ( and some say benefitted from it through his business as well ) .

Do you believe that his degree of rule breaking justified his degree of punishment?

Or do you believe his degree of contribution justified his degree of rule breaking?

I agree noone should be above the rules when it comes to the forum.
But I also believe that no forum is above the people that contribute to it simply because without the people there is no forum.

Conclusion -
The moderators should have handled it better, Yes Kevin broke the rules but based on his level of contriubution the punishment should have been less.
Banning outright was extreme.

Who owns RX7Club.com? Let me ask you this - Who pays the bills for it to be on the net?

What power do they have? They are as strict AS THEY WANT TO BE, going by what THEY THINK is morally right. On THEIR legal, logical, and moral basis.

What rights do those who contibute to this forum . . .? Huh? Who said you have any RIGHTS on this forum? Just because you CONTRIBUTE here? Who says what anyone contributes here is worth anything positive, or who's right or wrong? People are making money on the advertisements that are shown on this site, that's all.

Who really actually OWNS a forum. . . ? Again, who pays your mortgage, and your electric bill, etc. - You do.

If someone shut the lights off on this site, would you have anything to say about it? No, because you don't own it. For you to be here is a BENEFIT to your RX-7's existence.

Yep... although normally it would have been two weeks, but the mod staff looked at his contributions in the past, and just did one week instead.
