Then why does it say its possible in this other thread.

Let's add those 2 and 3 letter abbreviations for searching.

it makes it very hard to pick on people constantly asking questions about what oil to use when they can't search for the word oil...

Why did this even change? It used to be possible. Now, with the number of 3-letter acronyms common to these cars, the search function is next to useless.

And why has no admin answered this question? This thread's months old. It's been asked about before with no response. Is the Suggestions section no more use than the search function?

Dude, you cannot be serious.

So much info on these cars is described in 3-letter acronyms, either from Mazda or made up by all of us. It used to be fine to search for these, so why on earth would that change? And how could it not be fixed! How can we tell noobs to search, and then not allow them to search for the most common questions?

How do I set my TPS? What's VDI? What's an aux port? Where's my ECU? Do I need a FCD? Can I fit an FD UIM? Where do I get the FSM? How do I make a TID?

See the pattern?

Do you want to start answering these questions all over again? I sure as hell don't...

If you are having problems locating a specific thread on an issue contact for section moderator. They can help guide you to the correct thread or possibly give you specific other key words to search with.

Basic search engines that come with VBB (as well as other forum software) have difficulty searching for criteria less than 4 characters I have found. Mostly because any word that consists of 2 or 3 letters will generally also return search results for other longer words.

Example: CAS (Crank Angle Sensor) might return the words CASE, CASTER, CASING, CASTRATION,..etc you get the picture.

Here is the latest update from one of the other admins regarding searches for 3 letter acronyms. I hope this helps.

No. if you fail at searching and can't find threads about NGK AFx... then contact a mod.

As you can see here I had no problem locating three threads on the subject.

The search criteria probably expired.. sorry. I'm not mad atcha don't worry.

My point was sometimes there are other ways to find what your looking for... the moderators should have enough experience in their own sections to know the threads and help you find it. Regardless of the search function.

Moderators = forum safari guides

well i think that is a retarded idea.. i cant beleive that we are being told to email a mod just for a simple search. how do you think the section mods are going to like being ask to locate **** for people all day long.. and on top of that it would really suck to have to wait a day just to get your "search" results back. sorry to be so critical but i think thats a bad way to do 3 letter searches..

to every one else that is annoyed by this, here is a tip. since the rx7club cant perform 3 letter searche on its own, use a 3rd party search engine to search the rx7club.

iex: go to google and type in this: "cas" site:rx7club.com

it returns 10 pages with "cas" from rx7club.com.

^^ another cool thing about that is you dont have to wait 20 secs to do another search!

and i hope some day this issue is resolved.

First of all "Mr. Retarded Idea" the time to wait between searches is not 20 seconds.

Second, I'm not saying that you should email a mod for a simple search.

What I am saying is if you FAIL at searching or can't find what you are looking for then contact a mod. Obviously your Mr. Elite when it comes to searching so you should have no problems. In fact many of us that have been here for years know our way around and know the tricks to finding info.

Yes, the google idea works, and typically works pretty good. Google also has tens of millions of dollars invested into search engine string technology. We don't.

This tip was directed primarily at those who are new and or aren't expert search masters such as youself.

Hey, did you read the post below that said the search criteria had expired. The server caches search criteria for only so long. Get over yourself and quite taking cheap shots.

sorry.. it was 20s the last time i saw it.. i apologize sometimes im a smart ***. first off i know how to use google because of the downfalls of searching on the forum. this has been a problem for some time, and has never been properly addressed. i commend you for at least offering a solution, even if its not a good permanent one.

second i was just offering a search method for people who didnt know about it.

and third i wasnt knocking you about the link. i just found it amusing.

but seriously, I just went to search for "CAS" using the title only option and it works fine. Same for FCD and TID, I'm getting decent results, does this not work for you?

Just like killjoy said, if you know of another way to find the info, then use it, because RX7club isn't going to be changing anytime soon, and it works okay for most people.

so all in all I think we're beating a dead horse, and thats not right, even if it's dead you should be beating horses......

Somebody has obviously changed something because three-letter searches that definitely weren't working before now seem to work fine. Maybe someone listened to us after all...
