Fix the search function so that you can search for 3 letter words.

Would it be possible to allow 3-character searches again as well as retrieve more than 250 results?

Yes, it is ... that brings up another question. What are some of the 2 letter 'words' people typically search for? If can add specific things into the search database, like

RX
FC
FD

Duh, but what else? What are some 2 letter words you search for.

A lot of 3rd gen searches use:

"99"
"IC"

Are you sure it's working? I've tried several searches like "egr" as a test and always get the following message:

"Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms."

I'm pretty sure we have more than one thread on the forum with "egr" in it.

I think I see the problem. You have to have at least one search option 4 or more characters to have the ability to use a 3 character search. For instance:

"egr +light" - works for the search
"egr +led" - does not work
"egr" - does not work

I actually ran into this problem using the following search: "cel +led". I used this search often to pull up the thread for the Euro FD owners who need to know how to make something to read engine codes.

I can officially say now that I'm not a fan of the new search method. The older indexing method was much more accurate with results.

Generally, you do not allow searches on small words. How about if you made an exception for any 'words' that contain numbers (eg. 'S5', '123') and all upper case acronyms?

Upper case Acronyms should be allowed. Considering you can't look up stuff like 'ABS Removal'. Or 'CRV test'

Instead you'll get results for 'Removal' and 'test' (not good).

Fix the search function so that you can search for 3 letter words.

It is very annoying. You can't search for TPS, BAC, EGR, PPF anything with 3 letters/numbers.

I was under the impression that adding an asterisk at the end took care of that issue.

Lemme go test it out: FC*

THAT^^^ works. It yields the 2 letter words and any words combined with those 2 letters: like FC3S or anything like that.

search area

it would be nice if we could use 3 letters words in the search area since words like oil, OMP, ACV, etc are all usefull when you want to do a search but the search engine won't use them since it's only 3 letters.

don't know if it can be done but it would be great to add the 3 letter words.

i see it was discussed before but it still doesn't work

we used to be able to search 3 letter words before the big overhaul in spring...IDK why it changed, though. It's a bit of a pain if only for the fact that most people abbriviate and most abbriviations are 3 letters long.

It would also be nice if "search for all words" option can be implemented.

I was just about to make this EXACT thread (although I would have made a long descriptive title and put it in all caps) because this **** is SOOOOOOOOOO annoying.

90% of the stuff people want to know about is either a 3 letter word or has a 3 letter (or less) acronym: ABS, TPS, AWS, ect. etc.

Until they rectify this egregious error, I don't wanna see any mods (or general forum jackasses) shouting about search this and search that.

I've never been one to make threads for questions I know have been covered, (hell, I read the whole FAQ before I made one post) But now it seems at times thats the only option because its damn near impossible to find information on common topics.

...On a side note

After shoveling through hundreds of BS threads started by ignorant noobs (yes there is another type) It dawned on me, why not just automatically delete threads on topics that have been throughly covered hundreds of times........CAI, N/A -Turbo swap, how can I tell and S4 from S5 etc.

At least that way why you have to plow through hordes of non-related threads you might have a snowballs chance in hell of eventually finding what you were looking for.

I agree fully with the last post

addionally, the 3 letter word thing is pure craptastic butt plundering.

fwiw, full agreement with this thread.

sharingan, keep bumping your thread with the all caps title periodically to keep it on the front page so we can get some more hits in here. . .i'm sure basically EVERYONE agrees with all of this

I agree with that thread too.

Only problem is there's about 6 posts, and there problem has not been fixed

So the plan is to keep this thread bumped up and get about half as many hits as there are "How do I get power out of my N/A?" threads. And maybe, maybe it will attract the attention of the powers that be and we can enact a positive change
