Whats up Canada? First 7, newbie, progress and eventually pictures?

I was told to make a thread over here to say whats up to the Canadian side of the forum AKA the nicer side (A little north, a little nicer after all..)

I just picked up my first RX7 not too long ago (Thanks Bwek!) If any of you are familiar with his last steel machine of triangular fury, than this one won't be much of a surprise.

Just a blue 89 GXL, new motor, poly bushings, dtss eliminator, omp disabled, 5/6 port sleeves removed, and now, a fancy new wideband.

Maybe a few of you guys could shine some light on some issues and questions that I have before going to the tech section. I've done a fair bit of searching (as much as I can from my phone on the mobile version of the site anyways) and some questions remain unanswered.

It likes to idle really low, and the volts aren't exactly where they're supposed to be when it's running. I'm assuming either the alternator is going, or something is up with the wiring. That and I need to calibrate the TPS. That will likely happen this weekend, I've bookmarked the page for it somewhere.

It runs super rich thanks to this awesometastic FD fuel pump. I've got the wideband in, I have a VAFC on the way, I need to figure out how exactly that will work with this as I've had people tell me I can use them, but there's not a whole lot of information on them used in our cars.

Plans are to keep it NA and reliable as hell. Header and exhaust in the future, then eventually something that I haven't figured out yet. I'm workin in baby steps. I hope the facebook image links work here because here she goes!

The day after I picked it up (err.. got it dropped off)

artsy fartsy shot at work in the underground

And my recently installed handy dandy wideband

Any words of wisdom or helpful links that I might not have viewed would be awesome! I'll probably come back to this and post pictures of progress and such.

Canada ftw!

Anything between 100 and 800 rpm usually. But it surges, everything gets dim, and the idiot cluster comes on, perks itself back up.. etc.

Check timing and definitely check the idle screw, I doubt that your alternator going as all 2nd gens get low charging amps when the rpm drops that low. Mine idles at a nice 750, if your around North York i'd give you a hand to tune it

I'm gonna see what I can figure out this weekend with my old man. I'm just north of North York actually.
