Talking It turned over today!!!

I am sure no one has been following this, but...

I blew up my pickup a couple of months ago, and being a bit of a massochist decided that swapping in a DOHC 2.0 litre from a DSM would be a smart way to spend a summer.

After my "staightforward" swap turned into an epic journey involving 3 different blocks, a new wiring harness, a custom exhaust, eliminating the heater core, and any number of little brackets, harnesses, etc. I FINALLY turned the key on my DOHC 2.4litre beast today.

Well, I won't keep you waiting... It didn't start.

BUT: No bad mechanical noises, lots of compression noises, and fuel going through the rail.

So as you can imagine... No spark. So tomorrow I will take another run over the ecu wiring harnesses and figure out what I forgot to connect. In the mean time, I am going to have dinner, then maybe run the bike out to Hewits for a Fudge brownie Sunday.

Yeah why work on a Rx7 when it runs? Is he supposed to work on the car that is near perfect, but has low compression?

That truck has been nothing but trouble for you guys!
At least it's closer to getting fired up...

I hope you manage to see this because some punk *** kid stole my cellphone Friday night. I've had most of the numbers backed up on the PC, but alas some numbers were outdated.
I've tried calling a few people who might know your number, but again, no luck.

So yes, I'm coming out there tomorrow morning! Expect me around 10:30ish. If I can make it earlier I will...

Lates,

Well, he could you know, always build the 12a-13b hybrid hes wanted to build for who knows how long, and give me the spent apex seals so I can make ceramic ones that cost 1700 bucks less than the current market. or work on the truck.

Aww, poor mikey... No Free apex seals. Don't worry my friend, winter is coming. More time for wrenching.

Turns out I missed 1 conection: I didn't run a switched power to the main relay. Once that splice was done, turned over, sputtered, but didn't fire...

Looking back over it, I don't think I properly gasketed the TB-manifold joint, so that may be a big vac leak. Either or, it'll be running next weekend.

LOL, it's not even the custom mani. that is the problem. It's the joint between the manifold and the throttle body. I just straight up forgot to RTV it.

JOE: Have a new favorite at hewits: The Chocolate Peanutbutter Deluxe Sunday has beat out the Chocolate Peanutbutter brownie sunday.

Turns out it is important to tighten the bolts that hold the throttle body to the intake! Under the TB I found a 1/4" round bead of RTV... No crush at all.

But with that fixed, it now starts, runs, holds idle!!!!! Effing EH!

All in all, I plopped a transverse distributorless DOHC engine into a longitudnal, distributored SOHC engine bay. It ain't pretty, but it worx.

Now to find someone to build the exhaust connector, and make up a cooling system.

Im going to point out Fedsy that all the combined engineering that went into those two cars makes their drivetrain's completely uncompatible. Must've taken a smart cookie to get a square peg in a not so square hole

A determined cookie more than anything. Like anything else, it'll be way easier next time.

It fo' shizzle ain't pretty, and I had to make some compromises (like switching to electric heat), but it's been fun, and I can safely say I am the king of DSM EFI, as well as the king of Rotax EFI.

I just hope I can get another year or two out of it so I can put together a decent hauler.

man, I've been researching 4g63B-T's for a while. Dont shoot me but I think the next car I will ever build will be a rx-7 with a 2.4l 4G63B-T, B2600 truck bellhousing, stock TII Tranny, starion clutch PP, flywheel, RWD intake manifold and more **** than I can ever imagine.. lol

What did you do with the coolant thermostat housing? it sticks out of the back of the block pretty far. or did you just tap the front freeze plug hole between the cam belt up front and mount a thermostat housing there? (it's not a good idea to do that btw)
