Question TURBO Quick Question

I first gotta point out I am a noob here so here goes....
I was thinking of doing my own custom stainless lines to the blow off valve and such to the various points in the turbo system. I have the means at my disposal.
Think it will work better/worse?
Does it need to be flexible silicone tubing or should I use stainless braided hose?
PLease feel free to chime in. I need the help.
Thanks,
Conky

Well, SS Lines for the oil lines to the turbo would probably be ok, but SS lines for the BOV would be overkill IMO. Are you just upgrading the existing lines or is this part of a total custom setup?

Define SS lines. Do you mean like accual Stainless Steel PIPE to replace the stock rubber? Or are we talking the braided lines for 100% of your turbo piping?

Alak ....Yeah I am think do a full S/S PIPing to replace the rubber.

HalfJap... I agree it is overkill, but I can get free S/S piping, or buy a rubber piping kit ? I figure if its free and it'll work why not?

Thanks,
Conky

Well, I didn't realize you ment solid piping. I've never heard of anyone doing that before. I'd imagine it would be kind of a pain to work around in the engine bay, but I don't see why it wouldn't work as long as its big enough and strong enough to handle the pressure. If you are going to do this at all I'd say you would be better of using SS braided lines instead of solid pipe if for no other reason than to make working around it easier in the furure.

You might be better off asking this question in the "2nd Gen" section or "single turbo" section. They might have more insight.

IAN did is turbo feed and return lines in full SS Swagelok hardline. You'd have to ask him, but I think I was more of a PITA than it was worth....but it looks good.

On my dads Datsun 510 with an SR20DET that we took to Targa last year we made all the intercooler piping from Stainless pipe and ran braided stainless lines to the turbo for oil and water The piping looks killer when its all polished and the brided lines with AN fittings are super tough. If you have skills then do it. Is it really needed on a stock engine setup???

eViLRotor is right. It was a pita. There is little or no error for installation. You have to have exact measurements.

That being said I would just go with stainless flexlines. But I do like my SS Swagelok. Good for 15,000psi and 10 billion degrees. LOL

Thanks for the comment eViL
