Track Day - Calgary - June 16th.

Thursday June 16th. Canadian Rockies Miata Club are hosting another track day! This ones for sure boys!

Heres the e-mail I received from the prez of the club:

'We have another track day coming up on the 16th of June. As usual I would like to know who plans to attend. I do this because there is a fixed cost for the track and I need to know that there will be enough attending to pay the costs or at least get close to covering the costs incurred.

We'll start at 5:00pm on the south end of the road track and run until dusk. You will be required to have a helmet, forty dollars, and a car that has been cleaned out of everything that is not essential.

This is a great way to find out what you and your car are capable of.

The following are all the dates and times that we have booked for race city this summer.

June 16,2005 5:00pm until dusk on the south road track.

August 29,2005 5:00pm until dusk on the south road track.

September 22, 2005 5:00pm until dusk on the south road track'

Come one come all! Let me know if you lads will be able to attend so I can have a general idea of how many cars to expect. Any car is allowed as long as it passes a basic tech inspection. We are running Autocross style with timing equipment on hand to record who has the fastest set of hotwheels. Be there!

Like Luggage and stuff, you know, ice scrapers and stuff in the trunk. Cleaning supplies, loose equipment. The usual.

Alak: I hope you don't mind me hijacking your thread to anounce another track event. I organize the Porsche Club track events and we have one on Tuesday June 7th at Race City Speedway. The club has purchased new timing gear so you will get times for your runs to compare with the other cars. We generally get 10 or so Porsches, some BMW's, a few supercharged Trans Ams and the odd Mini Cooper S or Audi. The cost is $35 per car and the same rules that Alak mentions applies. The cars will undergo a quick tech inspection and a waiver is signed that says the car is mechanically sound. Your helmet is to be a SNELL (not DOT) approved. We start at 6:00 and run until dusk. If you have any questions feel free to PM me. Even if you don't want to participate you are encouraged to come and watch.

In regards to the Miata event, would it be OK if I tell a few of the Porsche guys? They might want to come out and get some practice.

The more the merrier. To be honest, we have to make up for the last track day they screwed up. We had to pay out of our club pocket without anything going back in. It was terrible. We booked it for Monday and everyone was told Tuesday. Unfourtunately the race city dudes arn't too friendly about that kinda thing.

I'll come out to the June 16th one. Anyone know of a good place to buy or rent a helmet?

Theres a bike shop somewheres where you can get a SNELL rated helmet for like $75 or something. Not a bad investment if you race alot.

Just an update for you guys. It looks like we are going to cancel our track date tomorrow as the weather is not looking favorable. I will let you know if we reschedule.

Just got word. As long as its not complete downpour, we're racing. A judgement call will be made prior to race time.

Helmets are REQUIRED. There will be no rentals.

Thanks for the invite, I had a great time, and can't wait for the next event.

I swear that my time was do to the car, and is no indication of my skills as a driver.

I am sure if I was in a miata I would have had the slowest time of the night and not the fastest. I got a ton of great advise and learned a lot.

I can't belive how fast I ran in my factory stock Miata.

Fastest - 94 RX-7 - 1:97.xx

2nd Fastest - 2004 Mazdaspeed Miata Running 10PSI with race car driver - 2:01.57

Me - 2:02.50 was my fastest.

I had some cone trouble as my second run I sneezed and bailed into like 4 cones on the straight. And my third run.

I'll have to comfirm those numbers once they post them on the Miata Club website. But personally for a stock N/A Miata, I say I did really really really good compared to the competition. Competition consisted of various Miata's and such. A 240SX with an SR20DET. A FWD Honda Accord Automatic (our entertainment for the night). A BMW M3 and a Triumph (I think) Spyder.

Great Turn-out and weather!
