I went out to the garage last night at around 9 to put the new air intake on the Cougar. I wanted to make sure that it didn't rub on the throttle cable or linkage, so I climbed in and pushed down on the gas pedal a few times. Couldn't help myself, so I turned on the power to the car and cranked it over a couple of times to see if the battery had gone dead. Holy moley after a couple of crank revolutions it fired up. Wasn't expecting that on race gas at around zero. Filled the garage with 101 octane gas fumes and woke up the neighbours. the Last time the car ran was just after Labour Day last year, so count me impressed.

I didn't expect it to start either, battery was dead and this is the first Canadian winter it's ever seen. 15 minutes plugged into my Escape and she fired up on the first attempt in about 5 seconds. The idle wasn't too rough, I just let it come up to temp slowly. I had high hopes but even I didn't think it would go that well. Hopefully I can find some inside storage for her next year.

Indoor storage, or even a car cover, would be a huge improvement. I don't know where in Alberta you are, but in Calgary, just the dust from the salt on the roads coats everything. I haven't driven my daily driver in the snow or wet for over a week since it was last washed, but it's covered in dust that is mostly salt. Around the downspouts from my roof, the grass and other plants get killed by the salt washed down with the snowmelt. Even stored in my garage, the 7 sits under a cover - which needs a good shaking out when I take it off in the spring.

I taught they were using Sand in Calgary
I know that's what they're using here in Edmonton
Which is kinda nice rust wise , on the other hand all those freaking rocks from all the trucks here , hit and break your windshield ! Painful...but I'll take that over white skirts

Calgary uses a LOT of salt along with pea-gravel - though probably not as much as a lot of eastern Canada, where there's more snow, and winter temps stay closer to freezing. The frequent freeze-thaw cycles that come with chinooks make salt or other de-icers necessary, but it's startling how much salt dust is ends up in the air and depositing on everything.

The salt used around the GTA is staggering. But like rx7racerca mentioned, it's due to the specific temps and the refreezing cycle.
Another reason why there are so many new cars on the road around here. The salt just eats cars. Doesn't help the majority of these people don't bother with rust protection. So their "new" car that is only 4-5yrs old, starts to show some signs of rust. They quickly dump it and get a new model.
Must be nice to have money...

Saw a beautiful MR2 and supra the past two days on the hwy. And tons of BRIM tracks. So again these nice cars a probable claimed never winter driven just because the pavement is dry LOL.

Seeing those two cars I looked them up online and they are rare. And expensive!

It's a shame I'm busy with a bunch of small tasks today - it rained here pretty good for a few hours earlier, now the sun is out, and the trees, the grass, and especially the road look a lot cleaner. I'd love to sneak the 7 out for some exercise.
