TII changed intake.. new strange noise

perhaps the local gurus have a thought,

i was runnin with my air filter mounted right on the turbo but didnt like it sittin inline with the rad and so close to the turbo, so i added a chunk of pipe an moved it out so it sits around where the stock airbox would be on an FC (engine is in a FB). now i notice when i let off pre-boost my BOV sounds weaker and i can hear a low sort of slurping gurgling noise comin from the intake or exhaust, hard to tell which. just wondering if it s just a result of the pipe or have I bitched my turbo or what? S4 TII engines runnin on a haltech an stripped down to nothing but necessity no AFM or emissions or anything, 3 inch exhaust

ok so after some pokin around it sounds like its definitly comin from the intake pipe before the turbo. so the new question is "is this normal, any idea what it is?"

Much like an NA with a cold air intake installed, plumbing will always change the sound.

if you don't have a good filter on the Pre-turbo intake can build up some velocity and when you let off the throttle. obviously all the air in the charge pipes stops. so the air in the pre-turbo pipe can't get through, so the velocity of that ait kinda bounces off the turbo impeller and bounces back. you maybe hearing the reverberation of the air. it's also the same kinda noise you hear when the BOV isn't big enough.
I was getting that noise for a while too, I lengthened my intake so that the air filter is behind the bumper, it kinda when away after that.

that was exactly the sort of thing i was thinkin was happening, but bein new to turbos im pretty nervous bout wreckin **** givin the number of problems others seem to suffer with them and the fact that i dont really know what im doing.

final question then is will it wreck anything? is it puttin abnormal stress on the turbo? seems unlikely but its cheaper to ask then to buy a new one.

if your BOV is big enough then no it won't hurt anything. if you really don't like the sounds use a more restrictive air filter.

You should hear andrews car, the intake is somewhere in the bumper if I recall hahaha.

How big is the inside diameter of the pipe?

And dont worry about the BOV, that HKS unit is big enough for just about anyhting.

I was running a a massive K&N filer really worked quite well. but when i built my temporary car last summer i misplaced the K&N, I had a HKS filter laying around and having no other filter i threw it on, Now you can really hear the scream of the turbo. it's rather interesting how much more attention my car gets at the track.... just from an air filter. your can't even see it with the hood open.

inside diameter of the intake pipe is 2.5, filter is 3" used a coupler to make up the extra half inch. meant to take a picture. i get pretty good turbo shriek now as well, goes well with the angry demon who snorts with disgust whenever i let off the gas :P ill have to hook up with someone who knows one of these days an go for a burn. see if its makin the right noises and such. thing goes like hell and sounds nice, but as previously stated i dont really kow what the **** im doing and have never ridden in a turbo 7 before this one so i have ZERO basis for comparison.
