I think a Hells Angels type gang would be a good idea, but without the drugs, theft, and killings. They never get yanked, and they are louder than most RX7's other than maybe a PP or uncorked Race car.

What about the trucks with 6" of lift, headers, 36" tires, straight pipes ect?

What do these "Police Interceptors" have for suspension? What do they have for wheels? Stamped steel Things that aren't OEM, they have Chips in the ECU's, they are made to handle better, and put up with higher speeds, how is it legal for them?

I'm in. So how do you propose we instill fear in the police?

I just come up with the ideas, and let the smart people make the plans.

Seems...like the law is against modified car not a street racing. I have not driven my rex for 2 years....and now she is ready to be out this season...and i was very exhited, but now this law scared me....(I need my driver license to work). I dont think my rex will last half hour on the road without getting pulled over..

Funny how people seem to be scared of the Street Racing Act, 2006 (Bill 122) which isn't even a law.

It took me quite a while to actually figure out what bill every news story I have read on the subject talks about. There was only one news site that actually named a bill.

If I am mistaken and there is another bill that I am not aware of, someone please speak up.

Otherwise:

It's only received first reading and has been carried. It's not even close to Royal Assent.

For the status of any and all bills in Ontario visit:
http://www.ontla.on.ca/web/home.do

So if you're recording the conversation (be nice thought, police officers respond much better to someone who is pleasant and cooperative) while being harassed by a police officer and get him to admit that he is doing something because the Street Racing Act (which allows officers to take your license on the spot if they even SUSPECT you of street racing and impounding your car or confiscating NOS) then he is acting unlawfully. The Highway Traffic Act is very specific and well defined on when and why they can take your license and impound your car (usually with respect to impaired driving or criminal offenses).

Remember to check your municipal by-laws and regulations as well though.

Also, I find that York region site a little out dated. It's better to use the Ontario Legislative Assembly site to look up your laws.

Highway Traffic Act:
http://www.e-laws.gov.on.ca/DBLaws/S...sh/90h08_e.htm

The only bills I can find that have changed the Highway Traffic Act recently are:
Bill 209, Highway Traffic Amendment Act (Licence Suspensions), 2006
Bill 169, Transportation Statute Law Amendment Act, 2005
Bill 148, Highway Traffic Amendment Act (Seat Belts), 2006

However if you read the Highway Traffic Act on the Ont Leg Asm page, those changes have been in there for quite some time.

I'm obviously not a lawyer, but that police simply need to "suspect" that one is a street racer would imply certain things. For instance, the police cannot search your car for drugs or weapons unless they suspect that you have them. Simply beliving that a driver looks like a drug user isn't enough, even though in some cases it probably should be. Wouldn't the same hold true for a crap box civic with a fart can? (ie. it may "look" like a street racing machine, but that doesn't mean it is)

This is what I don't get, what they say on that site seems pretty reasonable to me...

Q:I want to lower the suspension and slam this car.
A: No part of the tires may come into contact with the vehicle, no part of the vehicle can touch the ground and the front wheels cannot be visibly out of alignment

Wouldn't we all agree with that?

Q: I want to paint this car a different colour. A: No Problem, just remember to get a new vehicle permit within 6 days. This also applies to if you change the engine, fuel system, number of doors, number of axles or convert the body style.

I see duley DSMs all the time. Why would one need a new permit for a new fuel system or engine (assuming same number of cylinders and define "new fuel system")?

Q: I want to install racing or drag slicks on this car. A: It is illegal to use any tire that is marked “not for highway use” or any tire that is not DOT or otherwise approved.

The Subaru guys were complaining about getting harrassed about the tires that come on the Lotus Elise, I don't see how the police would have a leg to stand on if there was enough tred left on the tire. Pointing to the writing on the tire that says that they're legal should solve such a problem.

I would be quiet interested to see what would happen if a group of people sent an email to erase@police.york.on.ca and asked them to justify harrassment in specific instances. eg. In Peel I was told that my exhaust was too loud but in reality it wasn't that bad.

They are counting on a few things to occour, ( the police). That you will be too frightened to make a complaint, that your not aware of the law or your rights in this instance and that even if you do know your rights and your not afraid.. you don't have the money to take it court to fight it.. It's not about who's right or wrong now it's about who has the most cash to pay the lawyers required to fight this.. class action comes to mind as the only viable solution for most 'tuners' who will be nabbed

'fuel system' probably means carb-FI swaps..
