Ontario Emissions tests...

Are Ontario Emissions tests done using speed or RPM? I believe it's done by speed, since the lkast time I had one done it was done on a machine that looked like a Dyno... I need to know because my spedometer is not working and I have an appointment for later today that I need to cancel if the Speedo is indeed crucial...

As far as I understand it the speed is determined by the dyno and not what is displayed on your speedometer. The operator has to stay within a range that is displayed on the test machine's display. Therefore the operation of your speedometer is probably moot. A quick call to a testing facility should confirm the answer.

If the car is RWD, then it is put on the machine to allow the rear wheels to spin... the operator must keep the revs to the levels indicated on the emissions machine... they also do an idle test as well...

there is an idle test as JDM stated, but the drive wheels are only spun on certain vehicles, 4WD and all wheel drive vehicles don't go on the dyno, but most front- and rear- wheel drive vehicles do. I know there is exceptions though, like some of the older Volkswagens. for that info, i'd need the e-test book

Don't worry about it. Your speedometer doesn't affect your cars emissions.

have them say your car is too low, then you do a 2 speed idle.

Ya, then if they're ****** they'll say your car is unsafe and won't let you take it away until you install 'proper' suspension.
