I want to get a full street port on my 88 n/a but I have to be able to pass the emissions. I live in Ontario Canada, and I don't know how much the emission standards vary but is there any way I can pass the emissions with a street port?

I've read about changing ecu settings and making the air pump, pump extra air to the cat etc. etc.

Man I want this street port! There's gotta be a way!

 

you really shouldn't be worrying that much with a streetport. you should not be introducing any extra overlap with it.
you will fail if there are other issues with it, which there shouldn't be with a fresh rebuild.
you must be able to tune your car, at least for fuel, though. add timing control and those both will go a long way towards making a streetport pass.

 

My streetport passed emissions testing this year (barely - but passed!). The streetport in my case consists of extending the closing of the primary to 50*, and slightly extending the closing on the secondary (not the auxillary). Other work done, which I don't believe would cause any great effect on emissions, was to smooth and shape the port runners, and remove the exhaust diffusers.

If you open the ports earlier, or extend the closing of the exhaust, then you will increase the overlap, and likely have problems passing.

 

consider bridging the 5&6 ports and go with TII housings (no diffuser) with a little exhaust porting.

 

Thanks... great advice. Ya I'm getting new TII housings. Now I was going to get Rx-Specialties to do the port job, but I wasn't sure how good they are. Any good suggestions for places to get in done in Canada?

Also... What's the best way to go about tuning the car in regards to fuel and timing control? This is my first rebuild!

 

You don't need to go out of province for porting. There are plenty of compitent porters in Ontario. R.P.M. on this forum did mine. Drop him a PM.
